I leave on a big DONE5 tomorrow and have just noticed my platinum card has expired and I haven't received my replacement. The best QF will give me is a cardboard temp QFClub card. Has anyone ever had any problems with an expired card in gaining access to F lounges or has the FF number and Emerald status on the boarding pass always worked out ok? I'm probably worrying over nothing but have had a few difficulties with AA in the past....

Never tried with an expired card, but on recent trip to US BP with "emerald" clearly displayed was all that was requried to access either Admirals Club or Flagship Lounges

There are plenty of reports around of BA Lounge Dragons refusing entry without both current Card and BP.

Some other advice refers to getting a letter from QF explaining your situation. I would try to get such a letter as well as taking the temp card. Also I believe the Lounge dragons do have a means of verifying status with a 'phone call; however they need to want to do this.

I had a hard time getting into the LAX lounge earlier this year with a valid card and BP with status showing - I've also had a refusal until I've pushed to get into the LHR F lounge (and before anyone says anything I was both sobre and well-dressed.....!).
Thanks for the advice so far.

Were you wearing your "Down with One World" t-shirt? :p

No...but I was in Heathrow the same day that rapper and his posse got ejected from LHR Term.1 F lounge, so perhaps they had sent the message out to quiz everyone...as for the AA lounge I think had I been a rapper I might have got in more easily.

If visiting a BA lounge, don't expect to gain admission to the F lounge without a valid membership card, though with a temporary QF Club card, you should have no issue getting into the BA Business lounges. If you are lucky BA may let you into the Flounge, but you are (especially in London) likely to be declined access

I have never been asked to show my card to enter any lounge, the boarding card with one world emerald on it seems to be enough.
I was in the BA LHR Flounge Friday and LAX lounge last week, no problems at all, so I think you should be ok as long as your status shows on the boarding pass.
I don't have the business man look either in my distressed denim jeans, casual shirt and sneakers. I am one of those terrible people lowering the tone of the lounges. :)

When I first gained OW Emerald status I was in the middle of a DONE4.
So I found myself in London without a card.
Initially, the BA Dragons made a fuss, but I just insisted and they looked it up - no worries

I would not rely on BA always being so generous at LHR. There are many, many reports of people being denies access to the FLounges when they cannot produce a current Emerald card. As always, it will depend on the actual agent at the door and YMMV. But I would not assume access will be provided based on what is printed on the BP when it comes to BA lounges at LHR.

I have never been asked to show my card to enter a lounge internationally.
I always show my card on check in and ask for an upgrade beacuse you never know.

Have you used the FLounges at LHR when not travelling in F? In my experience, they always want to see the card to validate what the boarding pass says.

If lounge access is available due to the class of service, then boarding pass is all that is needed, even in BA's lounges at London. But if access is afforded by way of OneWorld status, I have found BA to be strict on needing to see the card. The card is generally not required for QF, CX, AA lounges. But getting into a BA F lounge at LHR with an economy boarding pass that says OneWorld Emerald and you are most likely to be asked for the card. The BA lounge agents seem to have been told not to trust the status printed on the boarding pass, but to only allow access based on the cabin being flown or after sighting a valid card.

The reason for lack of trust may be becuase for example when I flew BKK-SYD and my AA number was not on the booking, I gave them the number and the ASKED what my status was with that airline - I could have said Emerald/Exec Plat and that I guess would be on the boarding card even if was a nuffink status flier.

And I believe the BA system will show the status of the member at the time the booking was made rather than on the date of travel, so its possible that someone may have been Emerald when the booking was made 11 months prior, but their status expired and is now Sapphire. That is why BA agents want to see the card to verify that what is printed on the BP is actually valid.

I have never been travelling F when I have used the BA F lounge at LHR and in six years I have never once been asked to show my card, it hasn't made any difference if I have been booked in Y or J.

Perhaps I have been lucky, after reading your comments I will make sure I always have my card with me.
