I am probably 10% traveller category, the rest very different.
I have aging parents in the UK so visit 2 to 3 times a year (both birthdays + usually one other visit if free).
The UK visit allows me some work to help defray the costs - the work is secondary.
The next category (15%) is to introduce my kids to other cultures - both early 20s and they do not appreciate how lucky they are. Daughter has now got the travel bug, twice in 2 years "happened" to be in Paris for the summer sales and now wants to defer uni and work and travel in Europe for a year. I think that category is backfiring but she will see how tough they are doing it in Europe.
The last is hobbyist. A long time railfan ("anorak" in pommy slang), I visit the UK & Europe for photography, trackbashing and work on various preserved locos.
There is a massive community of railfans with all different interests - mainland European ones are more into photography and travelling on rare rail lines (freight only, scenic routes, etc).
Pommy versions do both plus still take numbers - definetly more idiot savants amongst the UK version.
Our group are mainly photography, tracks and beer - not necessarily in that order.
E.G. A recent German trip - 6 days of photography, visits to heritage rail locations and tasting over 140 different german beers - mainly at brauhaus locations. 9 core attendees from 5 countries with over 10 friends attending for one or more days - usually flying in or driving from another country.
Our perfect location by a scenic railway in a brauhaus with a beer garden and lots of freight trains to photograph. Autofocus becomes more important on your camera as the day goes on - manual settings start coming up with poor shots

.
At last count, I have friends from over 30 countries I can stay with (had a number make the long trip to Perth to stay with us). Accomodation is not a problem.
Amazingly, many of us are (still) married.
