In 2020 we will be doing 2 trips o/seas. Jan/February - Adelaide - Auckland - B/Aires - Antarctica Cruise - Adelaide. 30 days
June/ July Adelaide - Portugal - UK - Adelaide 45 days.
Should Mrs D and I get a one year multi-trip travel insurance given likely to be a couple of domestic, or get 2 policies and treat trips individually. We are 66 and 64 years old.
Thanks in advance
Col D

Read the PDS, as Annual policies tend to have a maximum trip length.

From memory for TI I have investigated, trip lengths can be 30, 45 or 60 days. I have found annual policies to be expensive but can be good value if you have plenty of trips in the year after purchase.

My annual multi-trip policy bought through Woolworths and insured by Hollard Insurance company costs $325 and allows 30 days for each trip, only ever had 1 claim and was quick and simple. We are of similar ages to you both.
IMO go for a annual multi rather than individual ones

OK so took the time to re-read your OP, see 1 trip is 45 days. I dont know if you can get an extension from 30 to 45 days

I have the Columbus Direct annual policy which is good value for me, no claims yet. The maximum trip length on their annual multi-trip policy is up to 60 days.

Discount available via this website referral I believe.

Our annual policy is 90 days per trip.
You just need to take the cruise option as a cruise is not automatically covered.
Given that all insurance companies will look for any reason not to pay out on a claim, does your itinerary need to show that you are travelling as part of a cruise. ie do you need to be going on a cruise to get 90 days?

My premium may not be indicative because of a pre existing condition.
I just tried a quote for annual TI with 1Cover:
"We Are Sorry!
We are unable to provide cover for this trip. Travellers aged over 64 years are not covered for this trip."

Not me of course, but my +1!

You don't need to be on a cruise to get 90 days. If you are going on a cruise the premium is a bit higher.

That will be me soon :(

Was easier to go with 2 policies - cheaper too - age is a factor!

Interesting differences re medical too - some add extra if on medication and some include anyway. All needs to be worked thru - Just because conditions controlled by prescribed medication doesn't mean accepted as covered.

I was surprised with one quote that even though my cholesterol is well below expected range for my age group and is controlled by daily medication and is more preventative than anything premium went up by $100. Another quote automatically covered/included if on medication. I dont know if should answer yes to high cholesterol or no!

You should always tell the absolute truth even if it means that you get a higher quote. Otherwise you won't be covered for anything which you might deem unrelated. eg. an undisclosed heart condition and a broken leg from a fall. Medical attention at sea is very expensive and a medical evacuation could cost a fortune, far more than the travel insurance premium. Even with travel insurance, my GP and specialist have both banned me from ever going to America.
