Well done QF Travel!

Good thing it was SIN you were transitting , I suspect if you had to clear immigration, collect bags, recheck bags and clear immigration again anywhere else in the world (maybe except DRW?) you would have missed the onward flight.

Agreed dajop :)

I would have missed it completely if I wasn't fortunate enough to be off the plane first and beat the traffic to immigration. The tags on the luggage helped enormously too.

Yes - I was informed that it only happens when you fly a budget airline (eg JQ, TR and Silk?) . Next time I'll know to add in an extra hour to make the transit easier.

Just for info, Silk Air is a mainstream carrier (SQ subsidiary), so no problems there with interlining.

The other major "budget" airline at SIN is AK (Air Asia).

:)

QFTravel glad everything turned out in the end and you had a great time in HKT.

Thanks Kiwi Flyer :D

Will be prepared to sprint from one gate to the other to make the flights if need be. :D
Sounds like you did a bit more that just sprinting from one gate to the other. :D

I spoke with Singapore Airlines and they do have a relationship with JetstarAsia - so yes I will be able to check the bags right through to coughet. That should save some very precious time and mean I can transfer airside as well. :D :D

The consultant also agreed that the 50 minute window should be enough for transit between Terminal 1 and 2 given that "our flights generally run earlier than scheduled or on time".
Were you able to check your bags through from MEL but got told differently when you arrived in SIN? Am I right in saying that judging by the above statement Singapore Airlines is not be trusted on information they provide, or is this just a case of one customer service consultant getting it wrong?

Sounds to me like one person got it wrong. I was surprised to hear that comment made in the first place as it didnt tie up with my understanding at all.

Thanks clifford, I knew there was a third - just couldn't remember it.

I agree with Kiwi Flyer, that the consultant I spoke with got it wrong. It is actually advertised in the Terminals (checked on my way home) that those flying budget airlines must clear immigration and check-in their own bags.

This advertising is in SIN airport?

I have never really noticed. I will remember to look around in SIN when I am there next week as I have a few hours to spare.

Thanks for the tip QFTravel, it is handy information to have if ever flying on LCC out of SIN.

JohnK, down the bottom of the Information Guides posted in the terminals. You would normally miss it if you weren't looking for it.

Enjoy your upcoming flights and have a safe Christmas period :)

Thanks QFTravel.

All the best for Christmas and New Year to you and your family. :)

JohnK just wondering if you found the information board I was referring to on your trip through SIN.

I'll try to have look for that information in a week's time. (If time & my other half will permit ;) )

I spent 12 hours in transit there in October and did not notice ... so I am intrigued. :?

Yes QFTravel, thanks, I had a bit of time to kill in SIN and managed to find some brochures. I have one in front of me titled "Transfer Passengers Activities" which if you read through it has the following mentioned amongst other things.

Budget Carriers (Jetstar Asia, Thai AirAsia, Tiger Airways)

Transfer passengers connecting to or from budget airlines must clear immigration, collect their check-in bags (if any) at the baggage claim hall, and check-in for their connecting flight out of Singapore at the departure check-in hall.

Would not have noticed this before but nice to to know that they are there as well as other brochures including things to do while in transit.
