Will be going DFW to IAH (Bush) later this month. What is the transit time usually. I know i have to go through customs etc pick up bags and re-check bags at DFW. Flying AA on QF number. Any ideas grateful. It's been a coupple of years since landing in USA, things may have changed.

Presumably you are on the same ticket so I would assume enough time has been allowed?

While I haven't had direct experience of an international to domestic connection at DFW (so no immigration or baggage collection), by all accounts it is quick. And my domestic transfers have all been extremely quick. Been able to make a flight scheduled to depart exactly 15 minutes after I arrived at a gate (in F) - including terminal transfer via skyrail and a bathroom pitstop. My sense is it's one of the best airports for transfers.

Are there later DFW-IAH flights, in case you miss the one you are booked on?

You'll land and clear immigration and customs at Terminal D. Once through customs, turn left and check the monitors for your flight to Houston - it could depart from any of Terminal A/B/C/D. Then re-check your bags, continue round to the left, up the escalator, and go through security (since you're WP1/OWE, you should be able to use the priority line). Once through security, unless your Houston flight leaves from Terminal D, follow the signs to the Skylink (train), and take that to your departure terminal (there are two stops at each terminal). There are AA Admirals Clubs in each terminal if you have time to kill :)

My experience at DFW has always been reasonably positive. Fast, friendly service. There are volunteers in ten gallon hats to help with any problems.

The terminals are laid out in a regular fashion, linked by the Skytrain. Only takes a few minutes to get anywhere. Be wary of last minute gate changes.

If you have time for a meal, I'd recommend one of the many restaurants for some good and fast Texas tucker, rather than whatever they have on offer in the lounge.

And you must get into the Shiner Bock. Fabulous beer.

Hi Skyring
absolutly agree with you, last time I was in DFW, the barman recommended Shiner Bock and it was a great beer
pity I can't find it in Oz

I haven't done it for a whilew, but not much has changed - maybe the kiosks ...

I have flown into DFW on QF7 twice.

First time the flight was 30 minutes late:
  • Arrived at 2:20pm
  • Was at Non US Citizens Queue 2:27pm.
  • Exited to baggage hall at 3:20pm
  • Exited to Baggage Transfer 3:40pm.
The citizens queue was larger but seemed to move faster.

The second time the flight was on time:
  • Arrived at 1:50pm
  • Was at Non US Citizens Queue 2:00pm.
  • Exited to baggage hall at 2:25pm
  • Exited to Baggage Transfer 2:40pm.

In both cases AAgents were moving through the queue doing a kind of "Triage"; those looking like missing their connection (within ~45 minutes) were taken strait to the front; others with time not so pressing were given yellow AA transit folders for express customs but left in immigration.

I was envious of those with Global Entry as they would have been through the lot in less than ten minutes.

Going by this web site:

Airport Wait Times

... such waiting times are not unusual at that time of the day.

There a very good thread on FlyerTalk regarding this: DFW / Dallas Fort Worth Connection Times - Domestic & International (consolidated) - FlyerTalk Forums (Look for relevant Int->Dom posts).

Hi All
Many thanks for the info. Arr DFW QF7 about 1335lt which will be TD. The next flight is AA on a QF ticket possibly out of TA at 1635lt, so it looks like i will have plenty of time. Will let you know how it goes.

Hi All

Just returned from trip Syd/Dfw and can report the following. Flight QF 7 arrived on time, about 1330hrs lt, to immagration, customs etc, took about 2-2.5hrs and then had to transfer to Terminal C, and wait about 20mins for connection Dfw/Iha. Worked out Ok, but took a bit longer than i thought. Coming back it was very quick, arrived at Terminal D and a short walk to D16 to board QF 8.
