Trans Tasman Sparkle

And to fly EK code share who do offer verve in the lounge and Moet onboard, not to mention everything else at the skybar...
All this is doing is advertising that Qantas haven't offered champagne on shorthaul business class flights to New Zealand for a number of years.

I suspect they perceive there is less competition coast to coast than trans-Tasman.

True but for some reason QF still use 737s on the Trans Tasman. I'm not convinced a few cosmetic improvements will be enough to cover for an inferior J hard product compared to the serious competition, EK & NZ.

On a four hour flight I don't find the 73H J seating to be inferior.

Remember, T-T has been bleeding the airlines dry for years - before throwing Jetconnect onto the route full time, Qantas and Air New Zealand had a significant joint venture knocked back.

So QF went with Jetconnect, NZ went with Virgin Blue/Australia and now QF are doing it with EK (The T-T required a separate approval to the DXB stuff.)

Early last month I flew on the QF186 ~8pm. I used the AKL EK lounge 'til it closed at 6:30pm then went back to the QF Flounge.

One thing I did notice was the QF Flounge catering had improved significantly since I wa last there in June - there were a lot more food option as well as Champagne.

Maybe it's the fuel price giving a little more latitude or maybe QF are triying to keep 'their' PAX away from the lounge- probably the former mainly.

Don't know about the Flounge in AKL - but know the wine selection in EK J lounge in AKL makes the QF lounge look boring and predictable. Some top Kiwi wines in good varietals (as well as the inevitable French bubbles). Have not even bothered with inspecting the QF lounge of late with both options notionally available.

Given earlier comments, do not think QF1 is about to start in AKL and run thru SYD and beyond! EK terminate in AKL and CHC from DBX via SYD, BNE and MEL - which is why EK economy is $199 AKL-SYD almost any day of the week (great for those cashtrapped Kiwis in jandals). An A380 would bleed QF dry of all that fuel-saving (not to mention the cost saving on that Kiwi cabin crew on JetConnect).

I'm looking forward to Cloudy Bay and Moët. And some nice food. I think I'll need to get into the Emirates lounge really early. What time does it open in AKL? Flight is 6pm. F to BNE. Is there an F lounge in AKL?

Gosh I'll need a shower after that feast to freshen up.

Dom on board?

Who knew people could find so many negatives about champagne and amenity kits...

Why drinking in the lounge when you will be offered much better quality onboard (Dom 2004).

Well, at least the EK stuff is across the Tasman. And it's sparkling. :p

I'd like the Spade Amenity kit but our Q flights to AKL are all morning ones.

You underestimate the power of negative thinking !!!
That said, once upon a time ( as a callow youth) I thought Moët to be the pinnacle of cool, now I won't even give it fridge space. Go figure!!
