Didn't where I should post this. Perhaps we have a sub forum for general loyalty programs somewhere.

Anyway I couldn't log into my topguest account and emailed the help email address. Got a short email saying my account was suspended with no reason.

On flyertalk other people have been getting their accounts suspended.

I actually was using the program correctly and I even was at CP GC for a checkin and wasn't checking in everyday.

Just a warning to all other Topguest user's to just watch out!

This is what can happen when people abuse loyalty schemes. Everyone gets tainted with the same brush regardless of whether or not you are guilty if someone decides to do an audit.

I tried asking a question on Topguest's Facebook page and they deleted my comment and blocked me from posting!

Fantastic customer service they got over there at Topguest!

Looks like mine was suspended too. Log in, but doesn't actually take me any where.

I suspect the fact I was using FourSquare to check in daily at the Holiday Inn to accrue points is what caused it. I don't think this is abusing the system...just using it. Kind of poor form to suspend an account without even notification.

It doesn't say you can't check in. Isn't that the whole point? Get points for sharing your location with friends. Nothing there to say you have to stay at the hotel. If they are being pathetic then topguest will die a death.

Keep in mind this is Topguest, which is separate to Foursquare....

Indeed. I was referring to top guest with my comment. They offer points for sharing your location. (unlike four square)

Indeed. I'll monitor mine, but I don't think I'll try logging into my TG account. I get points every day for HI + DT Hilton. The joys of living here, there's never one far away! (DT Hilton right next to my office and a HI just down the road from my residence)

I'm wondering if it's more a topguest issue. I tried logging in and it puts me to the home page with the 'login' option still displayed. I attempted to recover my password, and it sent me a password reset link. I reset it, and it does the same.

I have noted my points emails I get when I check in have ceased. I get a coffee every morning at a CP near me, so I check in. If they want to be so petty about it, then on their head be it.

Mine have still been posting OK up until yesterday for both HI & DT Hilton. I haven't tried yet today.... will do on my way into work and see if any issues. I did notice a multiple posting on 30/31st August (even though only checking in once), maybe they're trying to fix that up?

Side note, I hope it does work OK, only need 41 points to requal my PC Gold ;)

This from a post by the Topguest CEO Geoff.

To be even more clear, some examples of Topguest use that are not consistent with the spirit of our service include:
- "Drive by" check-ins
- "Walk by" check-ins
- Creating a private foursquare account with no friends, and privately checking into multiple Topguest partner properties each day

Might not be in the spirit what some users do, but they created the system and unless they made it that you actually had to be physically staying at the property then I reckon it is fair game. Plus it still creates advertising for the respective partners.

I think the biggest problem are the people who use auto4sq.com that have probably created the crackdown. If you check out auto4sq.com, their are some people that have checked in at some hotels 70 days plus.

Well, if they do clamp down (to their loss.....) then hey, it was good while it lasted!

Like Accor did?

Just checked in and points posted. Maybe they're anti Australian?

I got a warning a month or so back. Since I didn't know what the actual problem was, I've stopped using it for the time being (and stopped Topguest accessing my account!)

Exactly right, enjoy the perks why it lasts.

I only need 21,738 points to requalify PC Plat.

What it was good for was the top ups, so if you were a few hundred short of the next level it was a nice.

PC points was the only real reason to have foursquare.

I use it for the HH points too, there is plenty of DoubleTree's around London

Edit: and there we go, today's has registered --> Only 50 more qualifying nights or 39,991 more points to earn Platinum Elite.

Looks like I'd better be "friends" with all my people who are doing this. Not sure how they police "drive" by or "wlk by" checkins using auto4sq?
