Here's the story:

I have a DONE4 commencing in 10 days. It hasn't been ticketed because I am on QF175 from SYD-LAX via BNE and, as it has a stopover that I don't need and it is a 2-class service, I have been waiting/hoping/begging for some availability in D on QF107 later the same morning. Once my DONE4 is ticketed, I cannot change the first international sector. So I will be stuck with QF175 after ticketing even if some D class opens up on QF107.

Seatcounter shows just 3 J seats left on QF107. My TA says her system shows no J seats left. However my TA also says that as ticketing is due 7 days prior to the flight, if I wait until then some people in J may not ticket and therefore their seats would be released and QF yield management may process my waitlist. But while my ticket isn't issued I cannot waitlist for upgrades on some of my other flights, eg QF30 LHR-HKG about two weeks from now.

So in anyone's experience, is there really much chance that with between 0 and 3 J seats left 10 days out on QF107 that any D will be made available? And if there is, am I losing much advantage in the upgrade queue for my later flights by holding off for another 3 days? I am SG (getting to WP at the end of this DONE4) so I understand I'll be down the list in the upgrade queue anyway...

If it's 27 Oct you're talking about, I just logged into my GDS and theres no D, C or J class seats left on 107

I'd say the liklihood of D opening even if some people cancel is minimal but obviously depends on who your agent is and how much power they wield with QF.

Out of interest - why the aversion to QF175? Sure it's an extra flight but it does credit more miles and SCs to your account doesnt it? Also the opportunities for upgrade to F are great BNE-LAX I think.

Personally I would ticket and be happy knowing it is all sorted for the trip.

The only issues I have with QF175 are that I lose a couple of hours with the BNE stopover plus as it's a 2-class service there are no opportunities for an upgrade to F (A class).

I don't think I will get more SCs because it is the same flight number through to LAX and I don't think the small diversion to BNE will add enough miles to push it into the next SC bracket. There should be a few more miles though.

But given theres only 2 F seats left on QF107, your chances of an upgrade are minimal anyway.

Yes I know. I was just answering the question literally...my aversion to QF175 is that it is 2-class, but this is largely moot as the particular QF107 that I am looking at doesn't have much availability anyway. :(

Given your information tallies with my TA Travel Guru, I think I will go ahead and have this ticketed. Thank you for looking it up for me.

Thats okay, anytime.

You're doing exactly what I would do in your situation.

I agree the chances are very small. The reason they are willing to still sell some J seats may be that they plan some op-ups to F is they sell as J rather than F.

But no real chance of getting D on QF107 on that day.

If it is ticketed as QF175 SYD-LAX then you will get the same FF points as QF107 SYD-LAX.

The BNE transit is irrelevant unless it was ticketed as SYD-BNE-LAX in which case you will get more SCs and FF points.

I'm guessing it would be ticketed as QF175 SYD-LAX, so only SYD-LAX QFF points/SC's.

IIRC, There is no F on QF175 BNE-LAX.

Thank you all for your continued sound advice on this and many other topics. I have asked for the ticket to be issued so let the fun begin!

So what is your final routing and how much are the "taxes and charges" for the ticket?

Sorry about that :( I must have been thinking about upgrade chances MEL-LAX maybe

The routing is: SYD-LAX-SFO-LAX-JFK-LHR-CDG-LHR-HKG-SYD-CNS-SYD. The taxes are "approximately $1013.86".

In A$ what does that make your total fare?

My last DONE4 ticketed in the US by AA cost A$10,629.95 for the following routing:

syd-nrt-hkg-pvg-hkg-nrt-dfw-jfk-lhr-lca-lhr-hkg-syd-bne-drw-syd

Just interested to see the cost differential through being ticketed in the US...

I re-read the thread but maybe i missed something, was this ticketed in AU by QF for Homer ? Or ticketed in AU by AA ?
And AA in the USA simongr i got.

I think ticketed in AU by a travel agent as mentioned in the opening post.

Ticketed in AU by a travel agent.

Sorry for adding some confusion to the pot

It does make me feel a little more relaxed about BEHEMOTH and Son of BEHEMOTH as fearing whether I am actually saving money whilst taking these "liberties" with my travel.
