Here's the story:
I have a DONE4 commencing in 10 days. It hasn't been ticketed because I am on QF175 from SYD-LAX via BNE and, as it has a stopover that I don't need and it is a 2-class service, I have been waiting/hoping/begging for some availability in D on QF107 later the same morning. Once my DONE4 is ticketed, I cannot change the first international sector. So I will be stuck with QF175 after ticketing even if some D class opens up on QF107.
Seatcounter shows just 3 J seats left on QF107. My TA says her system shows no J seats left. However my TA also says that as ticketing is due 7 days prior to the flight, if I wait until then some people in J may not ticket and therefore their seats would be released and QF yield management may process my waitlist. But while my ticket isn't issued I cannot waitlist for upgrades on some of my other flights, eg QF30 LHR-HKG about two weeks from now.
So in anyone's experience, is there really much chance that with between 0 and 3 J seats left 10 days out on QF107 that any D will be made available? And if there is, am I losing much advantage in the upgrade queue for my later flights by holding off for another 3 days? I am SG (getting to WP at the end of this DONE4) so I understand I'll be down the list in the upgrade queue anyway...
