Hardly surprising.....

TIGER Airways has pulled out of Darwin again - this time for good.
The budget airline returned to Darwin last June - with a taxpayer funded subsidy - promising to be here for the "long haul."
But Tiger Airways spokeswoman Vanessa Regan said flights will be suspended indefinitely due to lack of demand and seasonability.
"We had a recent review of the network, as all airlines do, and it showed we haven't got the right level of demand," she said.

I didn't think Tiger would last this long. Not just DRW but in Australia.

About 2 years ago, TT was a cheap alternative for domestic Australian travel. They gave me a couple of very cheap, very reliable services between ADL, CBR, MEL & SYD. However, their services have dropped, their prices have risen - there isn't much point choosing to fly with them over any other airline because even when they have a sale it doesn't work out to be much cheaper than flying with QF.

"we don't have the right level of demand"

Does that translate to - nobody wants to fly us!

What?? Now how am I supposed to get to ozFest????

Grab a DJ 48 hour special????

Their timetable sucks MEL_DRW but is sweet DRW-MEL with a 6PM departure.

Just love the negative comments.

Obviously everyone wants to pay through the nose for garbage (ie DJ, JQ, etc)
But, as I've said before, that's the Australian culture.

Gotta love Australians (and I am an Australian citizen, but thankfully with a dual nationality).

Since you have to pay through the nose to fly tiger I can't really see the difference.

Compared to what other Garbage, EasyJet, Southwest???
And especially Ryanair, there is an example of garbage if ever I saw one but the Brits keep flying with them and let themselves be screwed for a "cheap" flight ,I would rather fly DJ,JQ or horror of horrors Tiger than I would Ryanair.
Cheers

Maybe they should stick to Gold Coast and Sydney... The places cheap people want to fly.
Sydney? Cheap?

You are kidding right. Brisbane needs Tiger a lot more than Sydney needs Tiger....

Tigers policies are 100% to blame. Unacceptable ticket conditions. There is a barn door of difference between Tiger and JQ.

Shot itself in the foot by not taking responsibility for its own connecting flights.
I priced MEL->DRW->SIN for example. Say the Melbourne flight leg was canceled, or late (their fault, their delay) Tiger at Darwin would say tough cough, you are late, loose all you money on the international leg, plus 'taxes' and play 4x baggage fee jeopardy, 4X credit card fee games.

I rang Tigers call center - thats what they told me, so Jetstar has got 6 return trips (AirAsia another 7) to Tiger's none. They will get zero EC international business unless they take responsibility for getting from A to B, without having to be punished for their missed connection mistakes.

Compare that with Jetstar for the same route , and Tiger are loosers. For the same reason, I wont stop over in Perth for few of wearing their mistakes and being stranded up sh.t cre.k.

Cant' complain about J-BogStar. Just nabbed MEL-Asia rtn for $410 - paid for 6 months in advance on a Friday special - another successful sniping move - that puts the boot into Tiger and AirAsia/SG, and more money for JQ as i have to get to MEL somehow.

I also laugh at Diner's card for TT Intl flights - how many TT pax have Diners?
Ok it gets over ACCC advertising claims, I dont check TT's .au to Asia web specials. Interestingly TT's IntraAsia does get a look-in,then JQ price matched where possible.

Finally, JQ have actually improved, while frustration levels at Tigers unannounced delay policies / unworkable schedules make it a no brainer. JQ is my preferred charter airline.

i have previously only used tt to match against jq, partic on jq35/36.
However after my nine-hour delay on jq7 am trying tt for first time domestically. have used ta before out of SIN but again prefer jq given T1 v LCCT and newer planes.

I'd never fly TT but I'd like them to stick around for the long haul to stimulate competititon in the domestic market. Only way to keep domestic fares reasonable.

In general I avoid the 'budget' carriers as there seems to be a compromise of sorts that you have to put up with whenever you fly them. But on an upcoming trip to DPS, I decided that I'd bite the bullet as I'd rather fly JQ over GA in any class! Well, Flounge access and StarClass crediting as J also aided the decision of course...

Or UA?

In fairness, WN isn't too bad from what I hear. They get more favourable reviews from friends and co-workers over the legacy carriers in the US. The cheapest fares, whilst not refundable, can be credited towards future travel on WN, cf most LCCs with which you simply lose the fare entirely. Being a QFF slave and booking last minute, I usually book with AA for domestic travel in the US as last minute fares are similar on any carrier, but I wouldn't mind flying the likes of VX or B6 if significantly cheaper. For domestic flights in the US, the legacy carriers are like LCCs for all intents and purposes anyway (especially US Air *shudders*)!

Sleazyjet and Ryanscare.... now that's a different kettle of fish entirely!

Yes, love those shows where they turn up a minute late or without a passport and all hell breaks loose.

You must wonder what people define as 'cheap'. I would /do pay extra for smooth traveling conditions, as most here do.

I wouldn't call any Aus carrier garbage, you need to be well travelled to spot garbage when you see it. They are a reduced standard and without privileges!!
