Clearly they need market research to see why people are NOT flying with them, and fix it.
I fly them... to paraphrase a WA Salvage ad "their not fancy, but their cheap"!

Look their priority is; keeping costs down, one of the ways they do this is by having systems and processes that are inflexible (this is a hallmark of the traditional LCC service experience). Many of us on this forum, as frequent flyers, appreciate flexibility over inflexibility (e.g. the 45min cut off) and therefore we don’t fall into the market Tiger is targeting. (AFF's uni students aside, many of whom are prime Tiger fodder.)

Remember in Ireland, that Mr Ryan lets everyone know complaining passengers are not his priority - (something like) if they don't like the service, someone else will like the price. And in Europe, with a much higher population (& lower service expectations) than Australia, it is working. But like any pyramid scheme, where expansion is the only driver for increased revenues, things eventually topple when substance is revealed.

In Australia Tiger is flying A320s (& now A319s as well) and I would have thought aircraft of this size are suited to flying between our major population centres. Many of the routes that Tiger is flying at the moment would seem better suited to a smaller aircraft type.

Let's face it, whatever they might say, Tiger needs to get into Sydney, and start flying Mascot to Tulla. I’m a bit Comme ci, comme ca over Brisbane, maybe they can put up a shed at Amberley or something, forming a triangle of service around the city (i.e. + OOL & MCY).

Getting into Sydney shouldn’t be impossible, but they absolutely need the government on side. Someone will have to kick QantasLink out of Macquarie’s T2, it’s that simple! (And only the federal government is in a position to tell both market dominators, that this is what they are going to do, and for free with no arguments.) There is absolutely no need for QantasLink turboprops to be hogging aerobridges that they only half utilise. The Bombardiers can easily be accommodated elsewhere, like Rex's Saabs, and passengers can be bussed out (i.e. passengers already have to be bussed in from the aerobridge, as they are not permitted to enter the terminal for security reasons).

Anyway, ramble over.

Now they are advertising "$5 + taxes" on their site. Smells of desperation. I hear from sources ;) at Adelaide airport that Tiger's loads are shocking.

you have likely already seen the numbers, but according to a report in Australian Aviation, Tiger Airways Australia reported an operating loss of A$12.2M for the year ending March 31 2008. So that was from November 2007 until end of March 2008. They claimed the loss was below initial forecasts and operations have been funded by positive cash-flow. The reports implies that A$7.9M was "pre-operating expenses" associated with deployment of aircraft, recruitment and training, administration in advance of operations and the AOC application.

This is put into perspective by the parent company (Tiger Aviation) reporting a consolidated profit of S$9.9M for the year, a S$24.7M turnaround from the previous year.

I guess they need to keep these sales going to retain the cash-flow mentioned above. It would be interesting to see how the number are stacking up since March 2008. It certainly took them a long time to report the number for the first 4 months of operations.

100% agree with the above post. I just cant see Tiger waiting around 5 years to operate out of Bansktown/Richmond or a so called "secondary airport", its too long and there is demand there waiting....The cheapest everyday fare into Tulla is about $115 on DJ, and if Tiger responds with say..$50, well then I would imagine JQ losing a fair few AVV pax, and DJ possibly losing some pax. Although they need to have planes to do this Sydney run, something that wont be available to Jan/Feb09 sometime. The thing is, they wont low airport costs to produce low fares, but even if they are charging $70 for the Sydney run, they should still fill those A320's. But the problems with Sydney (YSSY) for Tiger is:
-Longer Turnaround times
-Possible Holding Pattern time
-Long Taxi time
-Possibility of traffic congestion
-Higher costs (Dosn't DRW and ADL also though??)
On the flip side:
-Not really a low-cost competitor to fight against from Tulla
-Demand is there for Low-Cost-Fares
-Convienience of Sydney Airport rather than some basin airport..

Before they started in 2007, they handed back their already gained Sydney Slots in October and decided to go to NTL which bombed. So the fact they they possibly made the Sydney route possibly might mean we might see Sydney up soon. I wouldn't be suprised if Sydney is online before March 2009. There is a new A320 coming online soon, and all its "proposed" sector increases have been scrapped from the schedules with nothing currently in place.

Now they are advertising "$5 + taxes" on their site. Smells of desperation. I hear from sources ;) at Adelaide airport that Tiger's loads are shocking
Mate, ADL runs are horrendous. They have already axed the proposed "6 Daily" MEL-ADL-MEL runs, and now its down to 2/3daily. My eyes were bursting out of my face when they announced the 6daily. Now, who made this decision??? Friday nights are chockers though, Tuesday mornings are bare. Sad to see, but the best load I have experienced on MEL-ADL on Tues/Wed is about 45 pax:(.
Melbourne Mornings to Canberra - not sure, as midweek is grim.
Mornings are averaging about 50/60% and evenings both ways are just full again. The morning service has been changed in future schedules to a Late Afternoon and evening service made later in the evening.
why people are NOT flying with them, and fix it
Lack of advertising did this, nobody knew about them or where they flew, but now things have changed. I remeber sitting in the Virgin lounge once waiting for a flight, and when a TT320 went by, people were like "Who's that airline" and " I thinks itsone of those freight airline's":shock:.

Of course, Tuesday/Wednesday is often quiet among the whole network for most airlines in Oz...
