View of my office in the late 1990s – Chifley Tower, Sydney. My original Sydney office, Goldfields House, has gone. I had a 3rd-from-top-floor office, overlooking Circular Quay.



And my lunchtime office back then. Hard to believe, but I used to go for a run and up and down these steps two or three times. The horror! (Smoke haze, sorry)



Two observations from someone who is only an occasional visitor Sydney these days. The change in the skyline; big office buildings still being constructed - amazing (Metro has contributed to this I know).

And the footpaths are filthy. I remember them from being laid for the Olympics but you think that give them occasional clean. Now there’s all sorts of human waste over it, spills, grot . Yuk.

At the top of Kitzsteinhorn there is a tunnel carved through the mountain.

It’s about 350 metres long and takes you to a second viewing platform on the other side of the mountain.

From here you can look south across Hohe Tauern National Park.

I was on QF79 today, MEL-NRT. The captain made an announcement that you could see Mt Fuji from the left hand side of the plane. I suggest he was from Sydney given that it seems to be a Sydney glimpse.

What I first saw was the requirement for some more duct tape.

Hohe Tauern National Park office:


This is the glass entrance to the tunnel that goes through Kitzsteinhorn to the glacier, ski field and gondolas on the other side.

It was incredibly windy - you can see the snow being blown off the summit!

Departing Kitzsteinhorn office to go back to town there’s essentially three options.

Ride all four cable cars and take the bus back down the valley.

Ski to about mid-mountian, ride the last two cable cars and take the bus.

Or ski to mid mountain and join a gondola across to a different mountain and ski or cable car to town from there.

I’m no fan of busses on mountain roads so we went with option 3:



We actually skied down but here’s the view from the view if you choose the cable car (taken on the way up).
