Just wondering why there is a difference ? i must be missing something because i thought the larger longer to load/unload, older, more MX issues 767's would have been responsible for potentially worse performance.
Or is a 767 faster if it wanst to be and can make up more time especially with head winds ?

E
Evan,

Like you, I would have thought the 767 would have been potentially more of a problem that the 737.

For what it's worth Wikipedia lists the following cruise speeds:
737 100 - 500 M.74 (485 mph)
737 600 - 800 M.785 (514 mph)
737 900 M.78 (511 mph)
767 all models M.80 (539 mph) with a max cruise of M.86 (568 mph)

On the return journey, PER-BNE, the OTA figures are way better than the OTD figures, especially for DJ.

The jetstream would have to be involved.

The 767s use containers for the baggage and freight. I would think that would be faster than unloading and loading a 737 one bag at a time - even if two conveyers are going. Of course I could be wrong (particularly for very light loads).

Richard.

The 767 above still has a faster cruise. But the main reason is the range and prevailing West to East winds.from Jun-Sep typically 200kts.. Its as if your driving uphill (like flying into the wind) there are 2 options to catching up on lost time .1 drop it down a gear and give it more grunt get to destination ontime...but use more fuel..763s can stay up 8-9 hrs afterall or do your best but lose time..It has been common for 737s to have to drop into either ADL or KGI over winter months cause they just dont have the range when the winds are howling. A mate who works the ramp in BNE told me before 738s arrived QF had to limit block off up to30 seats on 734s to have the legs in AUG ,the worst month.

I'm sorry, but don't we have better things to do with our time than compare the differences between 767's & 737's. Also the % differences between the airlines is not significant, so what's the fuss? The other point is, what is industry standard worldwide? These look like acceptable numbers to me, so why the fuss?

I have to agree that comparing Tiger, to say QF is like comparing apples to oranges - not even in the same league, so why compare. Better to look at say QF and DJ, if you really want to be accurate.

I've had good flying experiences lately, so I'm full of praise for the white rat. :) Go Joycy!

I was thinking reading this thread:

QF or DJ hourly flights between major capitals.

TT - about 3/day.

So if your 9am QF flight is late by an hour and leaves at 10am, it still gets you there a lot sooner than the 2pm TT flight (given the earlier option is about 6am and you've avoided that for a reason!).

/goes off to look at timetables/

No one is fussing, more discussing. This is actually a niche forum which caters for these kinds of converstations that people are interested in... so if you don't like them don't post or read them. You are the only one fussing here

As have I, QF have done a stellar job turning themselves around after the union issues IMHO.

It may just be me, but I had noticed on the last few flights that the staff were more chirpy than they have been for a while.

I would say so also, and thats even after a 6.5 hour delay, very good crew except one annoying passenger. But i did get a call from the platinum service team to make good... and a voucher in the mail.. i have no idea how much, i expect not much given my very discount whY ticket.

Statistics! What do they actually mean? Does anyone know? I was on DJ261 SYD-BNE yesterday evening that was due to depart SYD at 6:00pm and arrive in BNE at 6:30pm.

Flightstats has the departure as 6:00pm and the arrival as 6:38pm whereas the Virgin Blue website has the departure as 6:25pm and the arrival as 6:45pm. I think the Virgin Blue website is more accurate but is there another body that actually monitors OTP? The delay was caused in part by DJ252 BNE-SYD arriving at 5:44pm (5:40pm according to Virgin Blue website). Who do you believe when it comes to statistics?

The delay was not so much an issue and cannot be predicted but I was not feeling well yesterday afternoon and was actually thinking of not flying but decided at the last minute to go to the airport and rushed along to get to the airport only to find the flight eventually delayed. Rotten luck. All the stress and worry for nothing.

Not complaining as it was a really comfortable flight and a welcome change to be away from QF. I went to use webcheck-in before the flight and saw that I was pre-allocated 13D and I could change to 8D, 9D or 10D. I decided to leave it at that and did not continue with webcheck-in only to have a lovely surprise on the flight with 2 spare seats next to me on what was a reasonably full flight. Overall a positive flight experience with Virgin Blue....

The longer they delay, the messier the lounges will be....:p I've seen it again and again and this will not stop until the airlines get their act together...

Hungry people having their hands all over the sandwitches and other finger food...

Heavy drinkers will help themselves with the free beverages and before you know it, they will be half blind in no time...

Angry business people yelling to their PA to delay their appointments + abusing the staff at the counter at the same time...

Frustration from the parents then extended to their kids and then the lounge instantly becomes a child care centre...

From time to time, I found the quietest place in the lounge is their exclusive bathroom... Lock yourself in there and voila.... finally a quiet time to RELAX and wait for the never coming "next available flight"....

Have we met in the lounge before a flight? I normally order 2 drinks at a time, pretending I am with someone, and when it comes close to flight time I have even more. I guess that is one way to pass the boredom some weeks. I only got refused service in the Brisbane business lounge once a few months ago, with the excuse the bar had closed and probably did at the time, but i just walked across to the Qantas Lounge as I was still thirsty.

It is highly possible that we did... as I assume you travel quite often... And the only place to hide is in the lounge. I spent most of the time around the bar or in the bathroom taking a bath with a glass champagne.
