What period of expiry is on the status match?

The people* that I have been referring over to Virgin, seem to be getting -

the rest of their current Velocity membership year
+ the entirety of their next membership year
+ 2 months extra leeway at the end

(*well for those who can't wait until DJ improves itself a bit more, and want to send QF a big message now)

Tier Matching at DJ - Process

Qantas will learn fairly quickly that you reap what you sow.

Lol hardly. The changes barely raised an eyebrow in the real world outside AFF...

From most posts it seems that people are doing it more out of anger towards QF than love of DJ. I'm a bit more clinical and DJ simply aren't up to scratch for me right now.

But it will be good to have some DJ experts in AFF as there are pretty much zero around ATM. Then if DJ ditch all their LCC trimmings and get serious at some point those experts can help other people they should hopefully attract!

I'm glad we have some sacrificial lambs on the way over !!

Anyone volunteer to do the same for tiger!?

Two years for me I only joined a couple of weeks ago (rejoined, my previous membership expired, as I never bothered to quote my number when flying DJ as I always had QC access).

So it seems like balance of current year + another year is correct.

Yes this is correct - I received the same. After checking the Velocity website, this is in line with what you would receive if you were actually to qualify for the status.

It's pretty similar to QF though - ie. you get the rest of year in which you qualified for the status (or in this case, the year in which it was matched), plus the whole of your next membership year. DJ goes a step further though, with the 2 month grace period at the end, in which you continue to receive the status benefit, even if you've dropped back a peg that year.

Wish I'd realised this - would have waited two weeks as my year rolls over at the end of this month - would have got 26 months of free gold, rather than 14! (My partner got 2 years and 1 month of DJ gold seeing his anniversary was september!)

I did it because my new job requires me to fly DJ, and I don't get a say in it!

What would Tiger gold get you ... maybe a discount of $5 off the $25 airport-check-in-fee? A reduced level of abuse from staff when checking in late? A massive 5kg worth of extra luggage ... above the current 0kg allowance?!

In other words, save moving your business away from QF until the changes we are not happy with are well and truly entrenched!

Put simply, people are requesting a match now so that the effect of loss of business is immediate.

Of course! Do whatever makes you feels good, clearly the WP change has impacted you personally quite strongly and getting back at QF will no doubt feel good... QF won't even notice I'm sure, but you will and thats all that counts...

I was really just pointing out that as a regular DJ traveller myself, the difference is still quite stark and not favourably for DJ. Have already had about 6 PM's asking me specific questions like I'm some expert!! Clearly not enough DJ Gold FLYERS on here (not just Gold status matchers of which I count about 4 of you coming across!)

Personally if I wasn't in my position and in some of your shoes, I'd be holding back my status match for when I thought they deserved the business thats all.

I do think people are switching a little too early, but hey, if you want to give them a shot, you want the status to start with to see if they can be as good to you as QF were I suppose.

I’d direct questions from people to the discussion boards as that’s what they’re here for. And besides, there’s a lot of information on DJ’s various websites and listed in that massive sticky thread Josh has been compiling.

Not attacking anyone, but I do wonder why everyone seems to lack the ability to search these days, regardless of how coughpy the search is now, I still seem to manage most of the time

Bottom line is though, status is all well and good, but is anyone (other than those that have said it’s just good timing due to new job policies) actually going to give them a proper shot, or are they going to fly QF a lot of the time

Personally if I wasn't in my position and in some of your shoes, I'd be holding back my status match for when I thought they deserved the business thats all.

I would have waited if it wasn't for the fact that I'm flying as a result of the company direction that I fly with DJ. Will be interesting to try the service, and hopefully the move from LCC to a airline with some service next year (although maybe not full service) will be good.

I too was one of the ones waiting for DJ to reveal its heading before doing a match, but seeing as my membership year is around mid november, I think i'll request this end of next month.

2 years and 2 months is enough time for me to make a choice. I'll throw business DJ's way when they get the 330's on MEL-PER with some frequency and they have their US agreements tidied up a bit.

I think that QF Golds are getting a very good deal here as they are going from a middle status to top status on another airline (although DJ only has 2 tiers, excluding Red).

Question for the DJ presence on AFF?

How long will this status match run for? Should l make the switch now, or could l wait 6 months and still be able to get a status match???
