The way out of lockdowns etc in Australia

Yet the bloody Tas Government is still dragging the chain on opening up. I think we are now the slowest in the country (no Tas jokes, please 🙂 ) . Given we are the most easily isolated from the rest of the country this attitude is getting pretty annoying. Its as if the Chief Medical Officer wants to preserve 'his' now clean bill of health forever and dares not make a change. Its not necessarily the next few weeks that concerns me (but it does for all those unemployed people, closed businesses etc), but rather what his reaction will be when the next, inevitable case occurs here. Down come the shutters again, 100%??
A little extra was opened up today - stage 2 was brought forward 4 days..... We can go away and stay away for the long weekend

🥳

We've just had a long w/e in WA and the regions were opened in time for it.

I happened to wander into Anaconda yesterday. A lot of tents seem to be sold out. The new toilet paper? o_O:p

I can foresee a lot of whinging about overcrowding of camp sites and local tourist attractions coming up - especially in the July and September school holidays. Wait for the fights... 😜

Yup. Exactly the same in SA although I do get a whiff that at last the Premier has realised as a Lib Premier that small business and not just pubs, needs some consideration.

I think the incorrect calling of the sad death of the 30 year old in Qld may get some action.

Ascribing that to CV-19, or even saying he was infected, was implausible from the outset.

I do wish that they would double, nay, triple check clearly weird outliers before shooting from the lip.

Not as bad as the cases in the USA,In Washington State the Covid virus apparently caused 8 deaths by gunshot.

The sad thing is that his partner had to go into isolation and grieve alone. And wonder if she had somehow given it to him. Prior to his death she had continued to work so there’s that as well. Then there was the Nurse who was somehow thought to be responsible even though her dates were out. Then maybe the FIFO community were blamed. Possibly at risk.

Hey, @Pushka , @Buzzard ... like to come and have a couple of cordials? 🙂

Tassie pushes for travel bubbles with safe states (The Oz, paywalled, sorry)

Tasmania is further advancing potential travel “bubbles” with states that have coronavirus under control, including high-level talks this week with South Australia.

The Australian first revealed the move towards specific border deals with like-situated jurisdictions on May 16, with Premier Peter Gutwein nominating Adelaide and Perth for potential direct flights to Tasmania, bypassing Sydney and Melbourne.

On Tuesday, Mr Gutwein, in announcing a relaxation of coronavirus restrictions, revealed he had since held discussions with SA Premier Steven Marshall, including as recently as Monday night.

“(Discussions with Mr Marshall were) about looking at the option of a direct link into Adelaide,” he said. “And there is certainly interest around the country in ensuring when it’s safe to do so, borders can come down, and we can start to travel again.”

They did two tests. One inconclusive. One positive. Given the positive test result why was it implausible?

I do agree though on the shooting from the lip and this case is a good example though of why the daily press conferences need to stop as they just create unnecessary angst.

Having said that with all positive tests contact tracing and testing of close contacts immediately begins, and so it is impossible to hide it. With all positive tests you would expect this type of speedy action as it is speed that can greatly reduce the size of any new hotspot.

So while yes this case has been most unfortunate, it is going to happen from time to time. The continued daily media show does not need to continue though.

That seems somewhat of a strange suggestion - I haven't been able to read the Oz story fully of course. The W.A Premier has consistently, and again yesterday, said legal opinion he received was that such action would definitely be unconstitutional. Of course I am not cognisant of what advise the Tasmanian Premier has received about his proposal.

:) If the WA Premier wants to contest direct flights between Adelaide and Hobart, or Perth and Hobart, per the quote, he should have a go. 😄

Oooh .. forgot who else was in SA, sorry. I guess there is @henleybeach too. I'll order some extra lime cordial. :)

Make sure it's SA Bickfords lime cordial please ;)

Seriously if there are direct flights from SA to Tassie I'll be off like a shot. I've been fine up until now but just had 2 nights out with friends and have serious cabin fever.

Care for a Henley Beach coffee catch up Friday? Or, maybe even Thursday when I catch up with my brother at the market! That'd flip his lid or I guess we could not tell him? 😂

I’ll supply the frog cakes !
I’d jump on the first plane to tassie for a cordial.
