Hi guys

Can someone please tell me if we can use Velocity points to upgrade on Etihad or Singapore Airlines metal?
If so, does it need to have a VA flight number?

Thank you so much!

No you can only upgrade with velocity points on VA metal. You can use velocity to obtain a rewards flight on SQ or EY though

Thank you for your response...

I was told that i could on the phone as long as it had a VA flight number on a partner airline. so strange! i was quoted 300K points Return for 2 people to upgrade from Economy to Business.

Could this be a mistake?

You can transfer your VA points to SQ, book an SQ flight directly, and use you SQ points to upgrade that SQ flight

I can't for the life of me recall this...
Booking Premium Economy through to the US, there will be a domestic leg at each end, ie MEL-SYD-LAX-DFW
Do each sector receive the SC and points earn of Premium economy, or where they stick you? Doing a dummy flight, and only the long haul have prem. economy seats, naturally.

It depends on what category they book into.
Any easy way to find out?
On a test booking, I get the Fare Basis of 'OLPSADSS', on flights that are MEL-LAX-AUS, AUS-LAX-SYD-MEL, booked as Premium Economy, but advised only the long haul can accomondate this class.

Essentially, It's only a few extra $$ to upgrade myself for a work trip next month, and if the whole distance is counted as Premium Economy, I'll be in Gold status almost Platinum, else if most of it's economy (discount at that) earning, it'll barely matter.

You get more staus on Velocity with Air NZ flights? :O

To my knowledge, yes. As the stopover via Auckland makes the trip in two sectors, so it splits up the miles per point/sc earn, and is a longer journey than direct Melbourne to LA.
Heck, Premium economy on Air NZ earns 1.5 points per mile, compared to VA earning 1.25. That is, before the silver/gold/platinum bonus points earn.

So for SC, this is what I worked out for premium economy comparison.

VA Premium Economy.
MEL-LAX 7944 Miles = 120 SC

Air NZ Premium Economy.
MEL-AUK 1648 miles - 60 SC
AUK-LAX ~6500 miles - 120 SC
Total: 8100 miles - 180 SC

Hi all,

My Velocity Gold review date is April 15th - today. I have already qualified for gold again. I am boarding an etihad flight Frankfurt to Abu Dhabi - it leaves around 7pm Australian time. Hence will arrive in Abu Dhabi after midnight Aus time - in regard to status credits and points is a flight taken to have been flown at the commencement or end of the journey?

I want to know if this flight will credit towards next years qualifications for 2018.

Thanks

Hey astrokid, this worked out as expected.

MEL-AKL: 60SC + 2472 FF miles
AKL-LAX: 120SC + 9776 FF miles

(based on RED status at the time of flights)

Air NZ to VA took about 4 days to clear into Velocity.

If you have any suggestions/ideas for updates/additions to this thread, please post here.:D
Any chance we can start one for the Velocity Daily Promotion - it's being trialled amongst Velocity members in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. Here's a link to the website: Discover Velocity Daily | Velocity Daily | Velocity Frequent Flyer I've taken advantage of it, but am still waiting for the points to drop. Essentially you link your Visa Card and shop at certain retailers (I've been frequenting coffee shops and making <$5 purchases). First purchase activates it and you get 500 points + 2-3 pts/$. After 10 purchases you will receive your postcode in points (in my case 2026). So roughly I will have spent about $40 to get ~2,600 points. I.e. 2026 + 500 + 80 (10 x 4 x 2) - not too bad a haul for a minimal change in behaviour.

This has been done - and linked to the thread on it.
