Brief business trip to Wellington. Liked it and hope to return for a bit longer next time.

Did you fly direct on Singapore Air?

No. Had a breakfast meeting in Melbourne, then an airport meeting in Sydney, so flew from there. On the plus side got a few hours in the F lounge from where I watched part of the footy grand final.

Was keen to do the return on Singapore but then needed to be in Darwin so it made more sense to do QF (quicker, plus status benefits).

Everyone in Wellington said it was known for the wind. Wasn't too bad to be honest.

I've bounced in and out of that airport on small Air NZ regional planes more times than I care to remember.

Amusing office stories....

Next stop on way north for the North Coast 500, picked up the Jaguar XF (got upgrade to the S - whee) and headed North via the highland chocolatier to Fonab Castle Hotel in Pitlochry. North to Inverness. Nice town to walk along the river, not much else to do.

The joys of office travel.

So have you completed the North Coast 500 - I plan to do that next year but I'll be driving on my own (probably not in a Jag though - any other hints or gotchas

A Tamar Valley office or two - more a view of, then from....

Aaah, Goaty Hill - always like to stop there on our way back to the ferry from LST - their gourmet platter and a selection of their wines on that verandah is wonderful. Looking forward to afternoon lunch there on (Melb) Cup Day. It'll be the last time as #2 son has now finished his degree at AMC so no need to go back to Tas in the forseeable future.

So have you completed the North Coast 500 - I plan to do that next year but I'll be driving on my own (probably not in a Jag though - any other hints or gotchas

Go on get a Jag! The XEs are very nice as well - had one last year. But do consider Avis prestige in Scotland before you book some lesser cars. The roads are lovely to drive on, many with sweeping bends, extraordinary views, and quite a number of single track roads with plenty of passing points. If everyone obeys the protocols there are few problems. Tourists and camper van drivers can be an issue but overall we had no problems (apart from the flat tyre).

We've not completely finished the trip yet but it has been a brilliant journey with fab scenery (although we always take the weather with us and have had 7 days of bright sunshine and clear days around 14-17C).

i may do a trip report on the journey if I have time otherwise I'll pm you on our itinerary and comments when we return to Australia and I have more time. PM me early November if I have forgotten!

Goaty Hill was ok but not my favourite, I guess I was just briefly passing to see what it was like (researching a possible wine tour). I tasted 3 of the 7-8 on offer and it cost me $4 for the privilege - only one other I checked out over the weekend did this - the rest but one had no tasting fee.

I had some more lovely views Saturday afternoon

Moores Hill - nice wine, nice view from the deck and they also offered lunch items / coffee for the driver.

No, not really. We've visited Tas 10 times in the last four years and in the years before that have done two comprehensive circle-Tassie family holidays that have visited most parts of that beautiful state. I guess there's just too many other places in the world I want to visit while I'm still young enough to enjoy the experience.

Thanks for the info - I'm actually planning on spending a few months in the UK next year so thinking about buying a car (and it probably won't be a Jag!!) I've checked out that website before and that got me all excited but will be interested for a more "practical" approach - much appreciated
