The Velocity Status Run Master thread

I wouldnt do it all in one day - wayyyy too much chance of something going wrong.

Id overnight at OOL.

The question is... would I be able to make it? any delay of any of the 6 flights would mess up the entire status run as there's no room for error.

I'm planning on doing this on Friday 15th Feb... thoughts?

While it may reduce your yield for the day, there is a MEL-ADL-OOL (MEL 07:10 OOL 10:45) that would also give you 100SC for (21800+$14.37).

Reduces the yield, but also maybe the stress :)

Just booked SYD-MEL-OOL-MEL-SYD to take me to Platinum. Cost was 27600 points plus $52.65 for a total of 200SC. Seemed like a pretty good deal to me!

Oh dear.. I thin it's gone

Yep, it looks like the Velocity points requirements have now been aligned to the cost of the flights, with indirect flights now substantially more expensive than directt flights! Must've happened overnight last night.

EDIT: Oops, I was looking at any seat figures! You can still get MEL-CBR-SYD (13,800) and MEL-OOL via SYD or ADL (21,800).

I'm beginning to think AFFers being nice people are doing all VAs legwork for them. Maybe admin should think about sending VA an account for beta testing. Perhaps having the ever more elusive VA member hovering in the wings, is not good for FFer benefits.

I'm going to be very selective about to whom I mention good value from now on, as it seems VA is monitoring this and when a bargain pops up, they destroy it.

Shame on VA. AFFers are relatively few in number.........what's your big beef fellas.......you fleece us enough, surely you can allow some cream every now and again!

Agreed mate.. Literally went on to book 20 minutes ago.

Hmm, not bad at all. Was it a SYD-MEL-OOL and an OOL-MEL-SYD ?

Yeh it was booked as a return flight with each leg costing 13800 points plus some cash. I am doing it all in one day due to time restraints and worked out quite nicely.

I can just imagine this:

Its 3pm at Bowen Hills, and a eager young revenue management analyst browses AFF and takes note of the SC run thread.

'Hey boss, check this out!!!'

The boss goes 'wow, OMG!!!' (OOL- SYD - MEL in J at 13,000 pts).

(some time later, when its 4:15 pm and everyone has clocked off except the analyst and the boss. )

'Nice work there mate, come see me about that promotion tomorrow'

In all fairness though, I'm sure VA will give us status conscious folk a few nice surprises this year. SC earning on reward seats for one.

Wow... that did go quick! I can't see any bus seats for those kind of booking at 13800 each!

I thought that for a second I might have just scraped in, but no an alternate indirect connection that I booked today is still showing at the same levels at which I booked it. Mind you it didn't involve a transit through a more distant zone than my destination, so it is a bit different to the SYD-MEL-OOL example.

Whilst SYD-MEL-OOL appears to have gone, the other routes discussed on this thread all appear to still be available, including one that I previously mentioned appeared to have gone too! It's still possible to earn 80 or 100 SC for 13,800 points and ~$15-50 on several routes.

I think it will have to be hush hush from now on unfortunately :(

It would be good if I didn't have to re-log in everytime when trying to do a reward booking!
