The Velocity Status Run Master thread

Hi all,

Brisbane based. Need to get to Perth on the Easter Monday week (April 10) or a couple days either side. Anyway to chuck in a few more sectors to boost SC earn without increasing per credit costs?
Also, really don't like how their lite fares don't show on Google flights. Makes comparing a bit of a PITA.

Lite fares and status credit run should never be in the same thread. They are a waste of time if you have any kind of status

It all adds up though. As a WP, I happily book lite fares. I still get to choose economyX seats and get into the lounge with lite fares, so I’m happy.

For the extra $20 on my usual sectors its triple the sc. if it works for you fair enough, but the reality is its car cheaper per sc. ive only just started travelling again since covid and will renew gold next month but still not looking like platinum any time soon

In need of 20SC ex-SYD (to complete the switcharoo requirements). It'd be between 8/12 - 22/12, preferably on a weekend as a day trip.
What'd be a smart and cheap way to get this done? I'd love a NTL-SYD hop (a train SYD-NTL) but that's not really available so one has to go a little further...

SYD-OOL is likely to be the cheapest and the Gold Coast is always good for a weekend 😎

Earning through Flybuys/Coles can also be good if you shop at them. At Coles, Liquorland or First Choice you can earn 1 status credit for every $100 spent, with a cap of 10 per month.

If i have not received SC from my Liquorland shop how does this get chased up?

I have recieved the points from Flybuys to my Velocity account but not the SC. I can see how to chase missing points on Velocity but not sure how i chase up the SC. Is this something through Flybuys or Velocity

SC's from Coles, Liquorland etc land into my Velocity mid month, used to be earlier, but for at least a year, it's come mid-month.

They come in as 1 transaction, not separate for Liquorland & Coles etc, they are pooled as 1 lot.

Anyone got a sense as to whether there might be a double/bonus-status-credits offer anytime soon? Trying to decide whether to jump on some discounted J fares using ITX13, with the Amex Offer and current increased Cashrewards cashback, or hold off in the hope they'll still be available when I can increase the SC earn. But the travel is in the next two to three months, so if we won't see a bonus until after that there's no benefit in waiting.

I'm not confident that a DSC would be released in the next 2/3 months. Usually DSC are in Mar/Apr, followed by QF, which happens Feb/Mar ... I mean, if Va was to do a DSC in Dec/Jan, they might sell all the seats and it would be a great way to earn $$ for the airline ... but I don't see it happening ... That being said, I will be excited and jumping on the DSC wagon should one roll out in Dec/Jan ...

I wonder what VA thinks about having so many SG/WP in their ranks. Severe crowding in lounges and diluting benefits such as priority boarding and premium entry. Sure it keeps people flying with VA but at what cost.

I know its probably the worst route but seriously, my SYD-MEL runs have had more people in the priority queue than in the normal one.

With all the status match/extra SC/status extensions, I doubt we’d have any DSC offers before June when the last bonus SC offer ended. Right know they’re probably perfectly happy riding the gravy train. If you look back at charts posted in this thread you can see how prices have increased over the past few months. Even SYD-BNK is now more expensive than SYD-OOL… see what competition does.

Looking to hit 200SCs for WP for the switch-a-roo. Preferrably over a weekend. Sydney based and I do need a trip to ADL over the weekend if possible. Been looking at LST as a viable option but are there any other ones that I should be aware of?

Also... Am I a bit daft or is there any way on the VA website to search J only instead of clicking into every flight?

Not daft; this is the only way.

Could do SYD-ADL via Melbourne return? Will be about $550 each way (each flight being $274, so $1100 in total) in J using discount codes but you'll get your 220 SC

Yes. You can manipulate the URL.

https://book.virginaustralia.com/dx/VADX/#/flight-selectionADT=1&CHD=0&INF=0&bookingType=flights&promoCode=ITX13&class=Business&awardBooking=false&date=12-09-2022&activeMonth=12-08-2022&journeyType=one-way&origin=SYD&destination=ADL

The above URL will seach for an adult one-way flight from Sydney to Adelaide with a promo code for a revenue ticket in business on the 9th of December, it will not surface any Y sectors.

ADT=[integer] (Adult)
CHD=[integer] (Child)
INF=[integer] (Infant)

promoCode=[promocode]

class=Business (Business)
class=Economy (Economy)
class=First (Business/Economy)

awardBooking=true (points)
awardBooking=false (cash)

date=[dd-mm-yyyy] (day of departure)

journeyType=one-way (one way flight)
journeyType=round-trip (return flight)

origin=[IATI code] (origin airport)

destination=[IATI code] (destination airport)

There are other URL paramaters you can play with but these are the most useful.

If the URL is not your thing, Google flights (or ITA matrix) should help narrow down some days/flights (just filter on VA and Biz) then go to VA to book.
