The ultimate Card - Citibank Platinum??

Gordon..you know how to pick your words to get us on side, don't you... :?

Gee guys... I'll try not to "winge" anymore! Help me out with this.... how should I do this? By not making anymore comments? By not asking about the experiences of others? Should I just 'go away'?

Probably by "asking" our opinions rather than telling us what you have done and having a crack at the card issuer for reasons that you just can't understand (but we can!!). Had you read this thread (plus others) carefully from top to bottom when you went to apply, you might have known that you woudn't achieve Platinum. Then you wouldn't have been disappointed when you weren't assessed as Platinum...sure we all have prestige, but some of us are adept at knowing how to wear it depreciatingly. People don't care how much you know (or owe, or own) until they know how much you care (about them)...give and you shall receive...

I'll keep taking note of YOUR little "wingers"...... I just won't actually tell you that you're "winging". I don't attack people like that (unless provoked first).

Gordon, you haven't learnt yet...most won't care and probably read your posts with distain and take little notice if you are going to be like this. And you've told us that you're going to be like that...

anything NEW to say about credit cards or FF programs? Anybody???

Yes, I've posted a reply to Scott question about Citibank Platinum Visa...my experiences to date.

For instance I have been trying to get a meaningful answer from Citibank re their inadequate www site ( you cannot make forward B-payments like you can on say Westpacs'site and it will not remember the payee details, you have to re-enter them each time you wish to pay the same payee unlike Westpac where it keeps such details as part of your user profile) but I either get no response or one full of gobledegook where they say they have upgraded their www site to incorporate these features where upon trying same I discver they haven't at all!!

I think I'll make a few phone calls in an attempt to find out "direct" from Citibank what they really can & can't / will & won't do for me. The following quote is from the Citibank web site and reenforces the comments from brucek.

Internet Explorer 6 is currently not supported by our on-line credit cards application site. It is recommended to use a version of Internet Explorer prior to Internet Explorer 6 and later than Internet Explorer 4. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and advise that we are working to upgrade the site over the coming months.

How long has IE6 been around? How backward with other things are they?

I just applied online for the Citibank Visa Plat without a hitch & I use IE6, so whatever issues they have must be over.

I did likewise at the start of April, received the card a few days later. I've since cancelled all cards other than my Amex. Quite impressed thus far with CBANK's performance. Very smooth, and very quick to get through to a cust serv droid when you call the hotline. Sadly, Amex's call centre handling has gone completely off the rails. I'm pretty sure I'm talking to somebody in Mumbai half the time.

Intro needed

Hi
I want to get a citibank platinum card. There is an offer now where if a platinum card holder introduces someone, both will get 10,000 points each. Pleaselet me know if any of you are interested. Then I can give my postal address where you can send me the form with your details. About three years ago, I was introduced by someone from this board to Gold we got 5000 each. I later cancelled that card.

Thanks

When I applied for Citibank Platinum an year ago, I got a Citibank Gold as Citibank refused to accept my sal package as it included 9% super to get over the bar and refused to consider rental income. They wanted a tax return. I did not do too well trying to educate that people will have less taxable income due to negative gearing etc.

After a more than an year of trying with letters, faxes, salary slips, etc., I apllied for CBA Platinum Mastercard and got it. then I was about to cancel the Gold card (I was so annoyed, I had not even activated as I did not want to pay fees for the gold card). Then I just thought I will send an "Upgrade application". I printed out the form, filled in the details, did not attach any supporting docos, just faxed the form.
In just three days, I have got the Platinum Visa. Unbelievable!

arun, welcome to the unlimited reward and $250 (annual fee) per year club :D
I have just run through some alternates on the Infochoice website and the Citibank Visa Platinum gives me the best choices and flexibility. Although AMEX has a 'spend $9500 p/a and waive annual fee' standard, Citibank Visa allows you to pay it with points. Visa is accepted far more readily on the Internet/worldwide than Amex and the Citibank card gives you purchase insurance. I've been pretty happy so far.

Looking back at this thread topic, when I first joined the CB Platinum I really did think this was the ultimate card. Not that I've had bad service, but some of the claims they make have never come true (like "automatically" being credited with the 10K referrer points for referring new card members). I've had to write in and waste a lot of time trying to get my points (admittedly, 80K points is worth worrying about).

Now with Amex Platinum, I'm seriously looking at how it works before re-crowning it as the best. CB Platinum, you're under attack...lift your game.

Maybe this little change will make you rethink the Citibank card, like I am now doing. I got this from Citibank today.

Effective from your next statement, the number of days within which you must make your minimum payment due on your citibank account has been changed to 14 days.

What this means for you:

1. You will have up to 44 interest free days on your retail purchases

etc etc.

does the Citibank Platinum card have a points cap limit?

I remember ringing up Citibank a while ago, and they told me it did, even though I could find no mention of it on their website.

ok, i answered my own question by ringing them up.

they have a points cap limit of only 120,000 per year.

what a useless card.

from what people have said it seems to be harder to get than a CBA platinum (very easy to apply), yet it has an even lower points cap limit.

Hi all,

Been a while since my last post but this topic of Citibank Platinum is quite interesting. Like to share my input....

The Citibank cards (Gold and Platinum) do have hidden surprises when you travel overseas. In Asia, this card does give some privileges and discounts.

I was surprised I could get into the executive lounge in the Jakarta Airport because I have Citibank Gold Card albeit having to pay about $15 for the access (It's free for Indonesian issued Citibank card). With Platinum card, you can bring in your wife/partner/hubby/friend.

In Singapore, discounts on some retail shops and restaurants are widely advertised. In Malaysia, discounts are also widely advertised.

In short, the card does have other intangible benefits which are poorly advertised by Citibank Australia.

I am also inspired by a story I heard somewhere on how someone used their platinum card concierge service to arrange their marriage. Not sure it's true but I think it is so.

I think the full feature of this Platinum Card is poorly advertised. I am yet to see the full PDS of it. I am concerned if Citibank is really going to reduce the interest free period to 44 days.

I am also concerned if the points earned are capped but I want to look for more information before I am going for this card.

Also, if you apply from the website, you'll notice they've lowered the income requirement to $75,000. Wonder why....

Please.... like to hear your input...

Does having Platinum mean dealing with an Australian call center where they can actually provide services, instead of the data entry telephone service in Bombay where silver and gold cardholders have to use?

Platinum calls go to Manila in Philippines. You will get the same consistent experience that is unique to Citibank globally irrespective of how much money you are coughing out ;)
