So what you're saying is..Halloween is one of those rare occasions I can deter people at my doorstep by using the line "Oh I'm sorry, see, I AM religious"

Knew I'd get to use it sometime..

The opposite in fact. Halloween has Christian roots. If you we religious you should observe the occasion.

According to my cursory quick research, it is "All Hallows Eve" which is essentially supposed to commemorate the dead.

The act of "trick or treating" is from an old Celtic tradition where young children would dress up as demons etc. in order to attempt to fool or scare them away. The children would travel from house to house, saying prayers for the dead, and be rewarded with cakes (and in some cases, money).

Now at least in North America, it's a way for kids to extort lollies (or candy, as it's called over there) out of people lest the house get covered in eggs.

I've been working in a different control centre than normal for the last couple nights out of my area.

In this centre, we don't have many options with lighting so the lights are on full all night. At least in my own centre, I can adjust the lighting. Mood lighting or all lights off after midnight like I normally would isn't possible.

One night to go - back to the trains next Wednesday.

I think if we could extract the values in religious beliefs and remove the need to worship "a being" then I'd happily be religious.

I guess we are all different.

I don't do random that easily. I believe in a higher power. It does not have to involve worship....

I think she's called Mother Nature. I think Chaos theory pretty much hits the spot.

That is one word for it.

I believe in order. The human body is a perfect example. I did not form randomly.

Just my 2 cents.

Halloween is more of a artificial celebration, derived by uniting two very different and ancient festivals. One a pagan holiday, the other being Guy Fawkes.

As per my earlier post cursory research suggests pagan or Christian and most likely that the Christians took over the pagan observance in order to supplant the pagan influence.

As I said I blame either the Christians or the pagans. Mainly the Christians for continuing it until the modern day.

I fail to see how this is anything to do with Guy Fawkes other that by coincidence and proximity.

Well I guess kids who don't get candy from certain houses can't exactly dynamite those houses, so instead they egg them.

Funny to think that there's fire activity in the upper Hawkesbury but when I left the control centre at Wilberforce this morning (night 3 of 3), it was foggy.

Go figure!

Wide awake again. Kept fighting sleep all day yesterday. Hope I don't fall asleep on the tee....

Gotta love Gladstone... A Dash 8 just arrived in and 3 pax disembarked. Looks pretty full going back out though.
