More seriously, it's probably not you, but there seems to be a strong iFanboy sentiment out there which makes out that Apple can do no wrong and has a carte blanche on creating everything good, so stuff like this is viewed as a "fake", "copycat" or "catch-up".

I think recently a lot of people (obviously those using iDevices) got very hot under the collar and vocal when the popular app Instagram decided to branch out and support other platforms beyond iOS.

I can send you a gif of Apple designed bits and pieces and Samsung 'designed' counterparts if you like that showed a little copying. These days they're doing their own thing though so its good, but they didn't initially which was the issue.

And I think Apple does a lot of things wrong. I used to fire off angry emails to the late Steve Jobs regularly when iOS was getting heaps of attention and Mac OS X was buggy.




meh ... fwiw, Samsung actually design the manufacturing process and build much of the iDevice componentry, including that of the iPhones.

Thats a myth, in the case of the iPhone 4 they supply the memory and CPU only, as for the manufacturing process outside of the semi fabrication, that's the sole domain of Foxconn. I think it gets as high as 50% for the tablets thanks to them also getting the screen business.

Most people would be surprised by who makes what versus the badge, it's been like that in the notebook world forever, with the worlds largest maker not even selling notebooks in Australia.

Why would Apple fans bleat about a product that they aren't interested in? It's another phone that has other features that will push Apple to improve their iPhone product. I see that as a good thing. However on review it doesn't exactly blow the iPhone out of the water - and it isn't available in Oz.

It looks too big for me though.

Anat0l summed it up well. Look at the multitude of "hate" towards Samsung (who weren't even involved) when RIM had the "Wake Up" stunt at the Sydney Apple store.

The Apple forums will be full of iFans getting their knickers in a knot over the patents Samsung is allegedly copying, how the phone steals other ideas from Apple, how the phone's screen is too big, how having an SD card is a bad thing etc etc etc.

I think I've watched it so often before - it's one of the few movies that I have watched multiple times in recent years. It was when I was discussing the movie incidentally with a doctor that I was consulting that it dawned on me why I related to it so much - George Clooney is a character that has a series of intense connections with people for a short period of time, and then moved on - his involvement in people's lives is very intense, but episodic. He feels that he helps people through a difficult time. But in the process he's built a life where he doesn't have any constant connections with anyone at all.

Sometimes I feel like that in my professional career, particularly in my line(s) of work.

I agree that in some cases a non removable battery is a good thing, if you can make the battery fill all the available space, I just don't think that happens in iPhones. Maybe fills a little more space, but not tons. Not like a laptop. And yes I'm replying to oz_mark more here but it's hard to multi quote through the app.

I think the gripe with the screen being too big is a real one, not just for Apple fans. It's huge. Is it as big as the Galaxy Note? That thing's monstrous.

I couldn't care less that another phone has an SD card, probably a good thing if you can buy a 128GB card someday to upgrade the space available.

The thing to remember is that in the past, a few years ago, Samsung designs were nearly identical. It's nice that they've actually branched out and differentiated themselves now. Last thing we need is more phones that look the same. The cases that are ongoing mainly relate to the **** that happened in the past I'd imagine. Would be nice if all the lawsuits ended. Eventually.

Thanks for explaining the wake up stunt though, saw a piece on it but at that stage they didn't know who did it. Interesting that it was RIM considering how much they're haemorrhaging money and losing market share at the moment. To be fair though, it did have Samsungs signature of going after Apple, so perhaps Samsung should sue RIM for stealing their advertising ideas

I suggest you look at the innards of an iPhone 4/4S. There's no spare space, this is one of the reasons that Apple has been spearheading the campaign for the nano SIM standard, or even better, built in software switchable IMSI's on handsets, meaning they can eliminate the contact module for a USIM.

The space in an iPhone 4/4S is very very effectively utilised. It's actually very well done.

I've just realised/remembered that the British Home Office has my passport and getting it back, in emergency requirements will be 5 working days at the absolute quickest. What cough timing, especially as said person is not going to pull through.

When my late godfather was in hospital, we had quite a few people using Skype to call in. May be an idea, though I know definitely not the best one.
