Yes, well done on standing up and I hope that you make a speedy recovery.

Not if I can help it Mal & Flashware, both myself and the police involved have every intent of ensuring the book is thrown at the assailant.

I was going to throw in a comment about WA justice, 500km drives and broken AC. But thought better of it, due to bad taste. (until now  )

Hopefully, the gent he assaulted earlier at the casino will swear out a statement before he leaves town. This will enable the police to prosecute that charge on the strength of his statement, the Casino security staff and their CCTV evidence.

The bit I've highlighted about being a public servant and there being extra charges is something I don't understand. Can you please explain how this comes about?

Thanks

I guess it refers to some laws that make it extra bad to assault government employees. But I have only ever seen this in the context of an employee performing their duties. I'm assuming that this happened on the way home. So I would be interested in the answer as well.

I hate it, working at Albion and living in the Moreton Bay area while my spouse lives and works in Moreton Bay RC means we have different days off, but at least the shops are open down the road.
And it is worse of you have two jobs. My son worked Monday in Brisbane (Entertainment Centre) and Wednesday in MBRC (Redcliffe Cultural Centre) so neither was a public holiday for him, so no day off and no penalty rates.

Some states have statutes on the books which provide for a higher class of offence when the assault is on an officer or employee of the public service/the crown in the execution of their duty. It's quite similar to assaults on a Police Officer, Transit Guard or court security officer.

As I had clearly identified myself as an employee of the public service, and was acting on the direct request of a Transit Guard, it could be reasonably considered that the assault was committed on an employee of the crown whilst executing their duty - therefore the higher charge, if it exists, could be reasonably applied.

I'm still looking into the statutes in Western Australia for this matter, however it does seem at the moment that our consolidated Criminal Code hasn't caught up with this legislative practice.

S318 of the Criminal Code (WA) refers to serious assaults, which seem to carry a greater maximum penalty

318. Serious assaults

(1) Any person who —

[(a)-(c) deleted]

(d) assaults a public officer who is performing a function of his office or employment or on account of his being such an officer or his performance of such a function; or

(e) assaults any person who is performing a function of a public nature conferred on him by law or on account of his performance of such a function; or

(f) assaults any person who is acting in aid of a public officer or other person referred to in paragraph (d) or (e) or on account of his having so acted

It might also be considered an aggravating factory when it comes to sentencing - S7(1) Sentencing Act 1995 (WA)

I have a feeling we might be getting dangerously on-topic! :p

I'm looking forward to arriving in MEL. Given the warm winter we've had (still averaging 20+ degree maximums at the moment) it will be a nice cool change. D2 knows all about my need for the cold! :D

Well, unbelievable. Some guy is sitting here (PER QP) using Skype to call everyone he knows, but using the speakers and microphone on his laptop.

Now I've seen it all.... that's worse than the people who sit here yapping on their mobile!

Had an American woman do that in the SYD QP late last year… everyone looked up, completely in her own world

Just got paged to the desk. Told that my row + 2 in front have no IFE so have been reallocated. Mentioned I didn't mind, so have been put back and now have 3 seats to myself for a nice nap :p

Skyping is alright, but for goodness sakes use headphones?

If it wasn't beneath anyone (not a believer in don't go down to the level of idiot to beat an idiot), then I would've done something like carry on in the background or made suitable background noise until said perpetrator gives some attention, upon which the irony would reveal itself.

I hate skype, it tells me someone is being cheap, I am sure some customers are ringing us on skype but I have found the call quality not to be as good.

Now this person is worse, showing disrespect to those around them.

Or perhaps not being as cheap as they thought. My previous employer put us onto a wiz bang voip system when we moved into a new building. They then found that all the addition computing power required blew the electricity consumption estimates and hence the budget. :D

Was a bunky old 767 with overhead screens, and the IFE head jack worked on my seat so not sure what the problem was .. oh well, 3 seats to myself = win :)

I have a BNE-SYD-BNE booking (fare bucket G) and I cant seem to seat select. It doesnt have the faded "check-in" tab either. What will happen at T-24 - will I be able to OLCI?

FWIW it has been booked by a corporate group agent for me with QFF number attached. I have no direct ability to contact agent to have them do the seat request.

Will Qantas do it for me if I call them?

How many in the group if you don't mind me asking?

Absolutely no idea - mix of docs travelling from all around Aus/NZ. My best guess is ~ a dozen to twenty from BNE (or possibly only one or two!)?

Does that make a difference?

I did have a thought that perhaps not all attendees are finalised and so the group booking is not as yet "closed-off" so to describe. So perhaps it will happen once all bookings for the group are finalised?
