The totally off-topic thread

Ummmmm ... no. I've always thought of shots as a kids phenomenon where they want to get the effect of alcohol, but don't like the taste (and I don't think they existed when I was a kid :) ).

When I was barman at a sergeant's mess a shooter called a Stringer was all the rage. White spirit (can't remember what), layered baileys, grenadine dropped through the baileys to create an inverted jellyfish effect/affect (whichever is correct). Those took a while to make, the drinkers certainly weren't kids. But they probably did want the effect of alcohol.

Effect is a noun, so is the one you want there.

Wrong thread, I know! :)

Is this guy a complete goose, or do they know nothing about IT? The Mac version of Office works fine on my Macbook Pro. No VMWare, no windows running under VMware. Nice and quick.

True, you can. But I definitely find the Mac version of office far less capable than the windows version.

Though I haven't used it in a couple of years, so maybe it has improved since then? When I last used it, I didn't think it was suitable for more than the most basic of home hobby businesses.

I was just about to say, have you installed the new version - but you've answered that. The new offering is considerably better.

I can manage to do all my work related tasks in Word and Excel switching between Windows and Mac with the same file. Powerpoint is pretty much ok, possibly slightly limited. But I have the feeling that the powerpoint animation options were better on Mac than for Powerpoint 2007 on the work computer. The only other program they mention is outlook. There are plenty of superior email clients out there. But email is not an issue as I use remote access to Outlook.

Chicken sexer can earn quite good money.

I didn't realize it was such a lucrative career as from what I have heard sheep sexers work for free across the ditch.

I've always found fowl a little foul, the smell of chicken sheds haunts me. I'll stick to cattle, sheep, and goats.

Also.. Apologies if anyone takes offense at my little jab out our kiwi brethren.. It was meant in jest and not to be hurtful.

University graduate careers: Employment figures down

Graduate employment is the lowest it’s been since the 1992-93 recession. The latest Graduate Careers Australia survey shows only 71.3 per cent of bachelor degree graduates had found work within four months of completing their studies. The money they’re being paid is on the slide, too.

According to data presented at last week’s forum into university financing at the Australian National University, the median starting salary for new graduates under 25 is now 74 per cent of the average male salary, whereas 15 years ago, that figure stood at 84.2 per cent.

Wait until you have to pay >15% interest on those loans

Stop dragging out that old hoary chestnut. it was only at that level for about 3.45 months. You also had massive inflation making the value of your purpose increase at a significant rate. Not to mention the massive wage increases. Basically misleading at best.

Most likely due to the damage in confidence being done by the current leadership. Still there are plenty of stories out then bemoaning the contracting workforce moving use back to a more jobs that workers situation.

It looks more like the beginning of the legacy of "pump priming" higher education ... something we can look forward to The high economic and social costs of student loan debt

A debt situation that will be greatly helped by letting universities set whatever fees they like, no doubt. Maybe a "fixer" needs to fix this.
