I can loan you two female children.

They blew our monthly allowance in less that 24 hours once, on Minecraft videos on you tube. It probably didn't help that one of them refused to let the other watch with them on the same computer. Apparently, in this situation you don't seek parental intervention but instead get another computer and watch the exact same you tube videos at the same time.

Certainly not my fault for having so many computer lying around.

Well that's one way to chew through data allowance in quick time (not a pun).

I would purport that beyond data necessary for those who do business at home or have to "transact" lots of files / large files (e.g. up and down from clouds / remote servers), most people could probably get away with 5 GB or so a month, 50% more if upload traffic is also metered.

That said, I'm guessing most people have larger allowances to deal with Youtube (and other video sites), downloading movies / TV series / etc.. Then there's the obvious...provocative... elephant in the corner accounting for the bulk of traffic on the web; put that aside...

Your stats "might" work for a child free, single household....

Surely you don't mean...

No, you couldn't...

OK, I'll say it

We get by on 50GB, but only just when we have the family staying with us. 50GB ok for 2, but wouldn't cope with 5GB.

And the winner is....

Who had the first party line phone installed?
Who bought an FJ new?
Who bought a record player that could handle the new fangled 45s?

No, not me but I'm sure we can track someone down...

We were not Holden people ! My father had a baby pink Ford Customline :D

We use around 50GB per month. I suspect this will reduce if/when certain laws are enacted by the Cwlth govt...

Coming to the end of our 2 year contract for broadband/landline service. Did some homework on our usage - we have a 200GB monthly plan. WOW average use over the past 23 months is 58.23GB per month. Only one month we breached the 100GB mark at 147GB.....I wonder what the kids were looking at during that month  !

We are on Telstra Mobile Broadband Freedom 15GB at $95.00 per month
Too far away from depot for ADSL, not far enough away for satelite service. No Optus coverage, so no other provider available. We push that limit just about every month that Uni is in session.
No movie downloads / piracy done at this residence.

Our plan is unlimited and unshaped for $70 a month. Sometimes I think we get close to breaching the infinity limit. ;) We do operate a server though.

We had the same but our provider is kind and a few months ago actually dropped the price to $60 a month.

In the office today I was talking to a couple of 20 something colleagues about the general malaise of the company and saying that it was not so bad for me because I could afford to walk away at age 63. They were genuinely shocked. Neither picked me as older than 55. They both said I didn't act, dress or have the hairstyle of a 60 plusser. Best compliment I've had for ages....

I upload 6 GB per month during the rugby season, Feb to Sept, that is metered. Fortunately, Foxtel on demand isn't metered by big pond. But the new sony smart TV tells me that iview is metered, regardless of ISP arrangements.

But yes we are lucky to use 10% of our 200GB per month. But it is a bundle that includes cheap phone calls that suit our requirements (our phone call bill per month is about $700 before discount ;)). So massive data allowance offset against cheaper phone calls that don't require VOIP.

The only prawn in our house is tweenies watching you tube videos about woohoo in The Sims 3.
