Try seeing Matilda in New York. That is the show produced by a Perth identity who is the son of a surgeon we know. We really enjoyed this show in London. (Just trying to get some class back into off topic).

No we have never been to NY at Christmas, would love a list :)

OK - for Princess Fiona and Amaroo and anyone else going to NYC in December -

Here’s a great map for a holiday windows walk: Macys, Lord & Taylors, Saks, Barneys, Bloomingdales - ( don't forget you can get a 10% discount card at Macys and Bloomies - go to Visitor Centre in each store)

A couple of train shows :-

Grand Central Terminal Holiday Train Show - Saturday, November 16th through Sunday, February 23rd

and of course the trees -

American Museum of Natural History (origami tree) - Monday, November 25th through Sunday, January 12th

Metropolitan Museum of Art (baroque tree) – Tuesday, November 26th

Rockefeller Center - Wednesday, December 4th (ceremony from 7-9 pm) through 11 pm on Tuesday, January 7th

The big company buildings on 6th Avenue ( from about 47th to 58th Streets) usually have a good display of Xmas decorations - I think it is UBS have HUGE red balls in their fountain - that is always a good photo op !

The christmas leave thing was bugging me do I dug out my certified agreement this morning. Turns out they can only close from Christmas day, and staff must be notified at the start of November. So I'm allowed to work the Monday/Tuesday, I just have to get a permission form signed....

Cove any chance you can flip\email\hook me up for a ticket to that Matilda show for a poor Aussie($AU diving)...Signature card still in the mail ;)
"son of a surgeon we know"...Pay it Forward?

Annoying for a lot of people like us, e.g. AFFers, where we try and maximise our holidays and often head off somewhere whenever on leave. I've never understood how people can take holidays .. and just chill at home! If you have DIY / renovations to do, I understand that .. but not just doing nothing!

Completely agree - although I am getting older and travel is becoming harder, I still wouldn't just stay at home. Weekends maybe, but not huge chunks of time...

I don't have enough money to retire any time in the next 100 years. I fully expect to work until the day I die.

This is also a pet hate of mine, especially as a consultant when you don't receive holiday pay anyway. It especially annoys me as it has never been written into my contract. In reality if I took them to court over it, I would win and get paid for the days I had to take off, however is it worth souring the relationship to do so....? Probably not.

The theory of contracting is that you should be paid a premium for your expertise and lack of 'employment' benefits.

Sat around a table with my siblings last night - one set of parents - no second marriages to increase sibling pool - total combined ages of said siblings = 660yrs - any body here with a family who can top that?

Impressive.

My family is quite small, so can't compete with that... Although I am very old (as you know :p)

So the formal part of our annual family get together was Sat night - this is where we met:

Reminds me of that joke "how do you hold your liquor" ......... :D

So would you toot a police car? Was sitting at the lights yesterday with a right hand turn lane beside me and the front vehicle was a marked police car.

They didn't turn on the arrow (I still had a red for the straight) and the driver behind the police car was visibly upset but didn't toot his horn. When the green came up for me I thought maybe the police car wanted to to ahead but they didn't so I took off.

So would you have tooted the police car when the green arrow came up and they didn't move?

I did once many years ago and the driver realised they had missed it, gave me a courtesy wave and went forward, no problems at all.

Cold war, hot jets, a fascinating series on BBC. Well worth a view if you get the chance. It's possible some of our senior (pilot) members may have seen these planes in action at the beginning of their career.

No. The horn is an audible warning device. I have heard police state on radio that any other use, ie not to warn of danger, is strictly verboten and can be penalised. Certainly this will vary from state to state but not worth the risk, IMO
