The Qantas Newbie Questions Thread

Is it for something coming up soon? There are often restrictions on use during school holidays and other peak travel periods, so may not have much success during January at major ports.

The flight is in early March so definitely not high season however I noticed under Departure Lounge Location BNE doesn't come up doesn't matter what flight date I enter... so perhaps it is indeed due to the fact it's high season (school holidays) ATM therefore it prevents linking the lounge invitation even if the flight is for a future date...

I'll try the Qantas Call Centre tomorrow, hopefully better luck :)

I'm trying to link a Qantas General Lounge Invitation to a JQ flight out of BNE but when I select "Departure Lounge Location" , Brisbane does not come up as an option.
Ditto for SYD and MEL.
Other lounges (eg PER,, ADL, CNS) show up normally as a lounge option.

Is there a problem with the online tool? Can I expect a different outcome if I try the call centre?
Would the absence of SYD & MEL because JQ use different terminal to QF at this locations.

It turns out the Qantas lounge in BNE is closed for renovations until August 2026 - it looks like MEL and SYD lounges have the same problem hence you can only link lounge passes to JQ flights out of PER ADL CNS and DWN :(

Drats. I just checked the Qantas lounge page and MEL isnt included on the list of exclusions… but you can’t actually add MEL to use the pass :( The rest of my travelling party have all linked their passes… they did so a few weeks ago. But I can’t!

Which lounge is that? International? Domestic? I have not been across any news of a Qantas lounge at BNE being renovated currently.

The SYD international business lounge is closed for renovations until 2027.

The following page is generally up to date with lounge news including renovations and it indicates nothing at Brisbane:

Which lounge is that?

International - but honestly if you try to link a lounge pass to a domestic flight out of BNE you get the same result... nothing shows up under BNE, SYD or MEL.

It does sound like a BS excuse - perhaps they simply remove the ability to link a pass to these airports during school holidays even if your flight is well in the future...

That is anecdotally correct. Seems like they wanted to get you off the call.

Try again later next month or even February.

I'll try tomorrow as lounge passes expire next week
Just flagging that the passes must be linked AND used by their expiry, not only linked to a flight/booking by that time. If your travel is in March (as noted above), then these would be no good. The system may let you play with adding them to flight dates beyond their expiry, but it won’t work or be honoured.

I believe that’s the case for QF flights but for JQ they can be linked up to 3 months after the expiry date. Of the pass.

Happy to be proven wrong 😑

The terms don’t cover this, and I’d suggest it’s highly improbable that QF would provide an additional benefit (of any kind!) where someone is flying JQ vs QF itself… but let us know how you get on!

Done it before with jetstar. Gave away a pass on the last day and it was linked to a future flight, post expiry.

I read the terms and conditions, which state only that you have to ‘use’ the invitation before expiry. Given the restrictions such as the inability to de-link the pass unless you change your flight, I was thinking ‘use’ occurs at the time of linking?

Anecdotally, there has been regular success in linking passes to Jetstar flights scheduled after the expiry date of the passes.

Note that the passes must be linked before they expire.
