"The perfect destination for everyone" - is that even possible?

It's true that everyone is different. My tastes are very simple

Golf courses - must have more than one nearby and be reasonably priced
Night-life - Not Western style Discos/nightclubs. Open air beer bars or just somewhere where one can relax, have a drink, listen to music, watch the world go by and feel safe

Hang on, I think I've found the place and even better if something for non golfer

Hotels - 2-3 star with a pool
Beach - somewhere one can go and relax, eat some Street food, have a drink and listen to music from bars across the road
Food - wide variety including street food but not burn the pocket
Shopping - variety of quality fashion reasonably priced

Yes it may not be for everyone but has everything our family need for holiday. Then spend 1-2 weeks in our rural 2nd home to unwind before coming back to reality....

Definately singapore. And what happens if you name the country will the aliens abduct them?

Nothing - I just wanted to make it a more general discussion, rather than specific to the destination that was the subject of the video.

I can use Singapore as an example though.
One of my mates is bothered by the overwhelming sense of being monitored for potential illegality in Singapore. It doesn't bother me so much, although I must admit having avoided taking a short-cut across some grass in a public place because nobody else was doing it & in Singapore you're always vaguely concerned there may be some unwritten/unsignposted law you don't know about & which you might be caned for breaking. Like having chewing gum, except we all know about that one.
Also, probably due to the poor state of mental health care in this country these days, there are people who dislike comfort and like dirt & camping in the middle of nowhere. Surely there is no "middle of nowhere" in Singapore?

Marketing is full of puffery with statements that are no necessarily able to be objectively verified. At a stretch there could be something, somewhere in the country for everyone.

Singapore gov't: Swearing in public. Wasting water. throwing paper into garbo can and missing. instant death penalty!

I recently watched one of those 5-minute "destination guide" videos on a flight where they give you a few tips for your destination. I won't name the destination, but this particular video was full of phrases like "unimaginable possibilities", "has it all", "breathtaking" and said its "mesmerizing beauty will render you speechless". You know, all the tourism marketing cliches.

But the one line that really grated me was "this is the perfect destination for everyone". I mean, every destination is different and people like different things. Which is great - variety is the spice of life. Some people like warm weather, some like snow, etc. I get that they were trying to say that the destination has lots to offer to different types of people, but how can a place be the perfect destination for every single person?

Honestly, when marketers use lines like this I think it just reduces their credibility IMHO. It's a bit like a restaurant that claims to have the best of every kind of food. It would be more believable if they said "we have the best pasta".

Please tell me where I'm going wrong. Maybe there is a destination that's perfect for everyone after all?
Sounds like a throwaway line that no human has really thought about. I can’t imagine a destination that is perfect for everyone. I have my favourite countries and cities and regions that I will happily travel to over and over. And yet I speak to people who dislike those same areas, even though we have similar interests and tastes and preferred climates. It seriously bamboozles me how people can dislike Rome, for instance. And yet I’ve had close friends loathe Rome, despite the amazing food, the architecture, the art, the grubbinesss… did I mention the food?

We’re all different. That's why some of us AFF folk live in Tasmania while others submit themselves to the torturous heat of northern Australia.

For anyone wondering, this is an extract of the video:

The onboard version was a bit longer and included an interview with a local tour guide.

Maybe something was lost in translation from Spanish to Dutch to English… 🤔

I guess it’s better than the real tagline based on the place’s relevance to the world … “We’ve got a canal & hats!”.

A nice video. It woke up the walker & nature lover in me. But it'd be a stretch to pull together the "perfect destination for everyone" from this, especially if you have kids in tow.

Just thought of one. USA (east west coast cities, florida, rockies, desert, great lakes, niagara falls, you name it!) And if you add in Puerto rico guam hawaii the US do have everything lol🤣🤣
