I'm heading back to AU in a couple of weeks and decided to give EK F a whirl BKK-SYD, as probably won't get the chance again anytime soon.

Have chosen my seat (1A), but if there's a better seat I should choose - let me know, it's pretty empty right now; had the entire cabin to choose from. Booked the Chauffeur as well, hopefully no problems finding my place, but I'm sure they'll contact me if any problems there.

Menu from this month looks rather good, and they have JWB on board, so I'll be very happy with that (of course I'll try their other whiskeys as well!!)

Any tips from those of you who have flown this route in F? I'm actually really looking forward to it, and hopefully the experience is a hell of a lot better than what was on offer in Y (on the 380) last year, where the crew seemed to be invisible and not at all interested. (A short, relatively empty flight, maybe they were chilling out.;))

some people think super friendly staff and service is what ultimate service is about
some people think being left alone in privacy with attentitive service is what ultimate service is about

everyone is different

So maybe the F experience is all about excellent choices depending on personal preferences. Nothing more than that.

Just confirming for those that flown 777 and A380 on F

the difference according to google is that the 777 seat is a bit smaller, and no bar/shower

how much of a negative is this if you are wanting the full F experience?

I actually thought it was the other way around - the 777 had slightly bigger seats than the A380 (which makes sense given the cabin of the 777 is much wider than the upper deck of the A380). But of course no shower.

But if you have the A380 on one leg - that should be enough to give you the expereince of all the A380 has to offer, shower, bar (if that floats your boat) and upper deck.

you may be right, I just got that from some trip report that could have been an amateur:)

Btw what points schemes are guys using to book redemption flights?
I am still using QF but it is getting harder, it seems like the days when EK redemption has well and truly passed.

Hello folks, I have a flight landing at DXB at 13:15 (777) and another one taking off at 14:55 (A380) the same day, both in F. Think I can do anything more than a quick shower during this transit time?

Sadly it will all depend on where your inbound flight disembarks (terminal/gate/remote stand) and where your onward flight departs from. If lucky to be the same terminal and you have a gate arrival you should have time for a bit of a feed as well. If unlucky and you get a remote stand and different terminals you may not see the lounge at all.

If you've got the A380 on the second flight, a shower there would seem a better use of time.

Thanks kermatu - will report back in a few days but after thinking about my last shower in the DXB F lounge, probably a better option to have it on the plane instead.

Don’t forget if you should wish a shower in the lounge to point out that you are in F - they should see it on your boarding pass, but I have always had to tell them. That way you get priority.

Just booked my first first class experience! Flying economy from Sydney to Dubai (arrive 1pm) and then first class from Dubai to Stockholm (depart 3pm).

1. Is there any chance I will be able to use the lounge in sydney?

2. Do I need to request pajamas given its a day flight? and whats the chances of getting an extra set? :p

3. besides the amazing variety of alchohol is there anything I should in particular request?

Can't answer the lounge in SYD, but I'd think maybe not, unless EK has some sort of special policy.

PJs will be provided automatically as part of your kit. You can always ask for another pair. They may not have them though.

You can check out the wine list before you fly on the EK website. They have the menu and wines/spirits available about a month in advance. Some of them can be in the hundreds of dollars a bottle. The cognac is pretty top shelf.

I think Qantas F lounge is only available if you're flying on QF metal? (But don't quote me)
At least you're not doing it the other way around - you'd be crying all the way from Dubai to Stockholm. ;)

The best advice I received was to compare the J and F menus online for your specific flight and then you can work out what J dishes are being served in F.

I did this so I only ordered dishes that were available in F and not J.

Oh and if you like Champagne, make sure you're ready to be gargling Dom...I can never drink enough of that stuff!

Qantas F lounge is available when flying F on Emirates, however I doubt that they would let someone in, flying economy (without status), even if F from Dubai. Or did you mean that if you are say economy on QF metal to Singapore and then F from Singapore to London, they would let you in?

Lots of good tips in this thread, so worth a read-through.

Do you have any status with Qantas or Emirates? If not, I think you'll not get into one of the QF lounges in SYD. The EK lounge may let you in on the basis you will be taking a later F flight. My gut instinct is no, but worth asking. Assume you won't be granted entry then you can only be pleasantly surprised.

I have flown on a daytime flight from Dubai to Europe in F where there was no proactive offer of an amenity kit or PJs. So you may need to ask.

My biggest tips are to plan ahead for food and beverages. Check the menu in advance. Obviously if the F dishes don't suit by all means go for the J meals, but it's good to know what's what! I often find the appetisers and starters to be the best dishes so you can always ask for extras of those (I've never been knocked back on any polite request). If you get time check out the dining in the first class lounge in Dubai too.

My picks for the drinks: Have vodka with your caviar! The Hennesy Paradis Cognac is outstanding. The 1963 Port is also pretty special.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately I do not have status but will try ask Emirates to get in - nothing to lose.

To make the request for Pajamas/amenities would you just ask for it at check in or on the plane?
