All 8 people in business were offered the same choice. And no pie(s) either on the SYD-BNE sectors. :(

Interesting. Still having catering issues maybe?
Pretty sure pies are only served on selected flights over 3 hrs duration as well

Was just checking out which seats we have been allocated. For PER-MEL (DJ680) on June 4th, as far as I can tell an A330 Version 2, we were in 8A and 8B. I moved us forward a row to 7A and 7B.
MEL-PER (DJ685) on June 14th, we have been allocated 10A and 10C on (I think) an A330 Version 1. I suppose extra leg room is as almost as good as an upgrade, although I won't protest if they want to move us forward! The down side is the dunnies are right in front of us.

Was opped up to J flying on a full flight BNE to PPP. (Gold travelling on Saver). From 3D to row 2. Myself and my pre-schooler. Service was just anything on the menu. Was a old 737-800 with proper seats, but not full prep galley.

No dedicated J crew. Nor any crockery, just paper plastic cups for all J pax. No pies.

Now that I've experienced that product, I wouldn't have paid for it.

The boarding pass beeps at the gate and a blue "walking man" icon with arrow pops up on the attendants screen.

Pies are only on 3+ hours, sigh!

Not sure if it was a true op up as I thought there was no j class offered on Bne-ppp route?

Business class is not offered on flights to/from PPP. You were merely fortunate enough to get allocated a seat in the business class cabin.

A few months ago we were discussing use of the business class cabin on non-J class flights. Some expressed the view the seats should still be used. I posted that I thought they should not be used, because if they were, pax would complain that they were "op-upped" but that J was rubbish. Didn't think I'd find my proof here on AFF though.
If DJ was to routinely offer seating in the J cabin on non-J flights they'd be opening up the floodgates of complaints getting upgraded to business class to Launceston, but having to pay $10 for a day-old sandwich.

No op-up for us in either direction :( And then when we checked in for our MEL-PER flight one of us had been moved from our allocated seats (10A&C) to row 15. The lady at the checkin desk couldn't explain why that had happened. We ended up in 12E&F. One person was sitting in 10A, nobody in 10C. They could have left us in 10A&C and put that person in row 12 with an empty seat beside them.

On the return PPP - BNE Flight Pax on FLEXI fares were seated in the "What would be J Seats" and GOLD members were row 3. Full flight bar 2 seats.

I was OpUp'd from Y to Y+ on VA1 SYD-LAX on 22 June. The flight was completely full and there were about 10 other upgraded boarding passes with the gate agent when I boarded all with Gold/Plat on them.

Exactley the same thing happened to me on the 28th of June, VA1.

Except the two pax on the other side of the aisle to me were op-up'ed didn't even have any status. Strange.

Um. General conversation?

"Is this your first time to Los Angeles?"

"Sure is, this is the first time I've ever been on a plane"

Upon boarding she also tried to stow her jacket in the lavatory, so I guess that's also a bit of a give away.

A pretty weak op-up, however wanting to return home yesterday to MEL from SYD 6 hours earlier on a saver fare, they changed the ticket for no charge and stuck me in 13C exit. A small but very pleasing win.

Fly ahead is an official benefit for Gold and Platinum.

Um. General conversation?

I sat next to an AA EXP on a LAX-SYD flight once (on Qantas). I was in PE 38K on an A380 and he was next to me in 38J.

He was talking about how awesome Qantas economy is compared to what he's used to. Turns out that he'd simply gotten the beep at the gate.

I wasn't nasty enough to break the news of what he'd likely be in for when going back home :)

Red, but thankfully suddenly busy as all my clients are in Sydney except one. Aiming for Gold by November.

Any Platinum members been upgraded from prem to business on virgin intl flights
I have a Syd-Lax coming up in prem economy, cant use points i am told

Upgraded from Economy to Business on a BNE-LAX flight as Platinum. Flight was heavily oversold and I was travelling solo.

Not necessarily a fully fledged 'op up', but:

Flew DJ 1142 yesterday on VH-VBU. Advertised and flight was sold with only Saver/Flexi options (no premium/J).

I had checked in using the new 'mobile phone' system (seat 8C - Silver so row 8 is as far forward as I get to preselect), and handed over my phone at the gate. The attendant didn't scan it, instead asked my surname and said she would print my BP. She punched in some query on the gate computer, and printed out a boarding pass with 2D. I didn't say anything as I figured anything further forward was a bonus, and was hoping it might be one of the premium layouts.

Low and behold this bird had been refitted with the new interior (old exterior), with 8 comfy J seats up the front. The two pax in front of me were remarking that they were DJ Gold and they thought that must have been why they were bumped to the front. 1D/F and 2A/D were occupied, the other 4 seats were empty.

No J service, which was fine, and why I guess it's not a real 'op-up', but it was close to the best thing that's happened to me flying economy everywhere...

Fare type was F (cheapest of the cheap sale fares) and I am nothing but smiles after that experience.

The only problem now is getting back on a plane knowing it's not gonna happen again haha!

YMMV, HTH.

Nice surprise.

Isn't VBU the oldest of the 700s? If so, I'm a bit surprised it's been refitted.
