The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

I think ACT end up having the highest final % double dose (of 12+ eligible) - may be even over 100% lol, I wonder which jurisdiction will end up being second most vaccinated (either 16+ or 12+ eligible).

Someone needs to remind Dan, Scotty and co that it’s 70% of 16+ instead of announcing incorrect figures

Healthy unvaccinated kids are extremely unlikely to die from COVID. The national plan refers to the 16+ population for reopening targets so the percentage for 16+ is ultimately what matters.

Vaccination rates for 12-15 year-olds are doing well for first doses so fully vaccinated numbers should follow and 12-15 should reach 70% fully vaccinated sometime in November in NSW and VIC at least.

Under 12s are ineligible to get vaccinated and even less likely to die than teenagers.

We can’t stay locked down because young kids for whom COVID-19 is like a bad flu are unvaccinated.

Agree with all of that but don’t incorrectly say that 70% of Victoria is fully dosed. Say that 70% of 16+ is fully vaccinated

Supermarket giants Woolworths and Aldi have announced plans to mandate COVID-19 vaccinations for all staff across Australia, but Coles will only require workers in NSW, Victoria and the ACT to get the jab.

Looks like WA is now going to beat NT and Qld.

Victoria says Commonwealth advice on a vaccine booster program is 'urgently' needed

Victoria's Acting Chief Health Officer Ben Cowie says his state's health team is in "daily communication" with Commonwealth colleagues about approving a program for booster shots for healthcare workers and the aged care sector.

"From my personal own perspective, the evidence is clear that we see waning immunity ... particularly six months and beyond after the initial vaccine course is completed," he says.
"I think booster vaccinations will be really important to some of our sensitive settings. I'm thinking about healthcare workers, I'm thinking about aged care workers and residents.
"I would strongly endorse such an approach and I would really welcome that national guidance coming out as quickly as possible, because it's an important issue that's playing out right now and we urgently need that guidance and national consensus.
"I am sure Victoria would be very, very happy to be an active partner in making that happen as quickly as possible."
Pressure is mounting for an urgent plan to roll out booster doses to healthcare workers, but ATAGI is yet to outline its advice on the issue.

NSW Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant has this week said she expects that advice will be released by ATAGI "very, very shortly" and her state is also poised to immediately begin the booster program rollout.

Delivery of Novavax vaccine delayed in Australia due to reported manufacturing issues

Australians waiting for the Novavax vaccine may not get access to the jab this year due to reports of more manufacturing problems that have seen stock prices for the American drugmaker plummet.

Australia has ordered 51 million doses of the long-awaited Novavax vaccine, which was expected to play a large role in the booster program, and was expected to begin delivery this year.

But according to a report in Politico that cites anonymous sources, issues with its manufacturing process may be more concerning than previously understood.

The company has reportedly struggled to meet the US Food and Drug Administration’s quality standards, with purity levels for its vaccine batches hovering around 70 per cent, rather than the required 90 per cent.

This kind of news indicates that they really should continue making AZ into next year. I reckon there'll be a reasonable percentage of those who had AZ for their first few doses that want it for their third dose (including me) and some people with an adverse reaction to Pfizer/Moderna that would be willing to have AZ.

I'll take whatever vaccine as a booster that is what the medical world recommends.

I sort wish I had AZ instead of fizer as the efficacy seems to last longer & better.

Bit like that old blue pill....

I've never tried a little blue pill.
But having had 2 x AZ vaccinations, I would like to have a 3rd AZ 6 months or so after the 2nd.

Was it all above board getting the 3rd jab?

What's actually stopping anybody walking into a chemist to get a 3rd jab?
Is there a rule / law?

6 months has gone past for a few ppl since jab 2.

Just went into pharmac_ and got very little questions directed at me. Was asked if I wanted Moderna or AZ. Obviously ticked no on the paperwork (yeah, I know that’s bad)
Shows up on my immunisation history but didn’t update my date on vaccine certificate.
Spoke to a friend who works at a SA Health vaccination hub and she estimates about a dozen per day ask for a third jab and that she has to turn them away. She has had a third jab herself also at a pharmac_ and said that the pharmac_ can’t look up your Medicare record so she does know plenty that have gone down that route

If they don't start letting people have a third AZ soon, many more will be wasted than otherwise would have been.
