The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

Has anyone seen the weekly VIC LGA level vax rates yet? I need for a work report… can’t see in the regular places yet just checking I’m not going mad!

Yes I have been keenly waiting for it too.

They normally come out in the afternoon sometime of each Monday.

ie Today's upload will be till 4th Oct.

The numbers could be released late in the day. Probably best not to schedule a work report for the same day the numbers are released.

Most of the main hotpot LGA's in Vic should be near or over the 80% 1st/ 50% 2nd dose rates (which is roughly what is expected will cause a decrease in cases with restrictions) in about a week.

Hume's second dose rate is likely to go higher as had large 1st dose rates for a month now, and so that should now flow through to second doses.

Some fantastic leaps there. Great news. Especially in the LGA’s of concern.

Number of LGA’s already above 90% is incredible too.

Numbers came in just in time for my report too 😂

I am confused with ACT's numbers.

All websites (smh, abc etc) show ACT's 1st dose = 93.33% for 16 & over

Andrew Barr says it is 93.33% for 12+

which one is it?

In the Commonwealth update released yesterday it was was : ACT's 1st dose = 93.33% for 16 & over (This would be up to Sunday inclusive)
S0 12+ would be higher.

ACT will now have had another 24 hours to have added to that (Monday) and so the 16+ that Barr should have access to by today (not knowing when you heard him) will be above 93.33%. This will be released by the Commonwealth sometime this afternoon.

So most likely Barr mis-spoke, which all of the politicians do from time to time.

The update is now out. ie Today's update and so data is to Monday 4th October inclusive.

ACT 16+ is now 93.85 for 1st dose.

It won't have enough of an impact to change the 70% DD relaxing of restrictions for NSW starting Mon the 11th Oct, but the small Labour Day weekend vaccination numbers on Sun & Mon have slowed us down by 2 days on the expected target being reached. We're now back to Friday the 8th Oct for what was earlier anticipated to be done by the 6th of Oct.

Just one of the challenges with using historic averages to predict the future!

I think there's an even stronger case for NSW delaying their public holiday than there was for VIC delaying its GF public holiday and neither happened. Public holidays slow down vaccinations as most GPs won't be doing vaccinations on those days.

Nope NSW get the least public holidays of any Australian jurisdiction, we very much needed the day off, no reason to delay. If anything we should get a bonus PH on freedom day.

Delaying PHs doesnt really accomplish anything

I thought WA gets the least?

NSW could have delayed the public holiday only about a week and had it after 70% fully vaccinated is reached. Whereas for VIC Grand Final Friday would have had to be delayed a longer period of time to be held after reaching that point.

Mass Hubs to be wound back in Victoria

Naomi Bromley, Deputy Secretary, COVID Response at Department of Health & Human Services, Victoria at the Vic Presser today indicated today that once the second dose program was more advanced that the Mass State Hubs would be progressively wound back. If any state hubs remain in 2022 they will most likely be small in scale (ie may be at the same site, but will no longer be a mass hub).

Focus is shifting more and more to delivering at a local level including through state run local pop-ups, but more and more this will be through the Primary Care Chanel of GPs and Pharmacists, as well as other means (probably more with the booster program) as used with flu vaccines. This would include the Covid 19 booster program.

One extra advantage of this is that it will free up the state nurses involved at state hubs to be redeployed back into hospitals.

Not stated by Naomi, is that in say a fortnight that the Primary Care Channel in Victoria will very late in the piece be finally reaching reasonable spread and capacity across in all Melbourne suburbs and across the state. This was the original plan, but which the Federal Government failed to deliver in a timely manner. This will allow the the mass hubs to be progressively dialed back once the second dose rate has been caught up with, and once the Primary Care Channel has demonstrated improved throughput.

VIC were actually very lucky they were the most advanced state rolling out the state hubs otherwise the Federal stuff up would have really hurt them and we wouldn’t be seeing the rapid vaccination rate achieved in Victoria now… very lucky.
