The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

My suburb has 60-69% of those aged 16 and above 1st Dose and 30-39% fully vaccinated!!!
The neighboring suburb is even better with 90% first dose.

And before you all have any smart comments no we aren’t all living in aged care facilities 😂

The suburb next to me (Newcastle West) has 90%+ first dose and 50-59% full vaccinated. But I think it's a data error, they only list the population as 500ish and there's been quite a few new developments in that area.

Mine (Newcastle) is 50-59% first and 20-29% full, so right on state average. The list the population of Newcastle (suburb) as 10,000ish which is much more like it.

Just because it opens up on the 30 August it doesn’t mean that it‘d be easy to secure a Pfizer dose on that day. Even if I had had first Pfizer on 30 August at a GP clinic with a 3 week gap between doses that would mean full vaccination only about a week prior to AZ.

I think the reality will be bookings will be likely to secure dates weeks after 30 August and state hubs in VIC have a 6 week gap so full vaccination there would have been later for me with Pfizer at a state hub than with AZ.

There are ways of making an appointment for the day of release if spots are spare from earlier releases.

It won't be easy but GP surgeries are being given an increasing number of Pfizer doses over the past week or so. There is supply coming in and it is being thrown out there.

Anything we can do to open up access is going the key to this. Whether it is someone walking past a pharmac_ with a "vaccine available" sign or going to the GP for a sore foot and leaving with a sore arm!!

And that right there is why there will be literal riots in the streets if the government fails to open up at 80% - and not just from the extremist groups.

As many in the media have said, this was a contract between us and them in order for us to step up for vaccination. They have to deliver their part of the deal.

SA CHO has said that even after 80% Vacc rate that we will still have to wear masks pretty much everywhere and at least until next year. Will be interesting to see what happens on our first hot summers day that can occur from October onwards if we have reached that target.

The masks won’t worry me to be honest.
I always admired that they were just a thing in a lot of Asia.
Means I can swear at people without them noticing 😆
If I get to travel freely, and have some sort of a normal life again I can live with the on again off again masks.

Hopefully we get to the point like cold & flu, use common sense, don't go to the doctor unless your symptoms are extreme.

Don't test for covid unless you go to hospital.

Then we can have near covid zero!

You know even at 81% fully vaccinated SA, QLD and WA Premiers will Lockdown their whole cities if they get more than say 5 cases though, right? Guaranteed in 2021, first half of 2022, they may peter out a bit towards Christmas 2022 in Locking down.

Sure. If we can travel overseas I'll gladly wear them. But if it is 80% and masks and we still face border restrictions both within Australia and on exiting Australia then, well, I give up.

Stay positive - even the crazy premiers must want to normalise things again and have tourism and economies restart. I am betting the house on 80% seeing things improve!

It sounds like QLD is about to ditch the masks again. Their CHO said she hates them. But she loves border closures.

NSW continues to climb the ranking in the vaccination stakes, passed Tasmania now and ACT in its sights. Still in 4th in second doses though no doubt that will change in next few weeks too.

We should not have to pay people to get a vaccination. Strong disagree on that!
While I agree to an extent with the thought, there is in my view a difference between dogma and pragmatism. I don't particularly like the fact that some people won't get the vaccine for themselves and society, but we have set some targets for vaccination and if incentives are want is needed to get people over the line, the benefits to each of us in my view outweighs the dogma so I'm in favour.

Pfizer don’t make masks unfortunately 😆😝

Agree don’t care anymore if we have to lie, cheat, force or pay people as long as they get jabbed and we get our lives back, fast.
