The COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Australia has begun

At 5599 doses yesterday Vic had its highest daily total since the Pfizer preference was announced. (Remember that doses reported are for the previous day).
Which makes it the highest daily total in 2 weeks. Hopefully if not before next month, when any over 50s can get the vaccine there'll soon be days with the highest daily totals in the vaccination rollout to date.

Had the Astra Z shot today here in Melbourne at the Exhibition Centre. Was booked in for 9am, turned up around 10mins early and there was a queue of around 10 people. Some were just walk in's. All went quickly and smoothly, was out of there at 9.15 after having to do the obligatory 15 mins wait to check for adverse reactions. Not even a sore arm ( at this stage..)

I have jumped on the vaccine bandwagon, with an appointment booked in a couple of weeks, timing worked out well as I have to wait due to receiving the standard flu shoot today (pre booked at work). It was interesting booking in SA, I rang a couple of GP clinics close to where I live and was informed that they will only take 1A and 1B bookings and did not seem to care what the government announced for those over 50. Called 1 or 2 GP run respiratory clinic and was booked in without any issues. If I hadn't been able to get a booking in SA I would have most likely shown up at Jeff's Shed as a walk in when next in MEL.

Thanks to VIC.

When do the other states start opening their mass vaccination centres?
ACT from the 3rd May is supposed to be turning Garran into Pfizer only and Calvary becomes AZ. Will probably double what they are currently vaccinating, but I don’t see us as a huge contributor :)

I have not followed closely what is going on in the DPRSA as I am not 1A or 1B. Last I read the SA are still talking and planning to open vaccine hub, there seems to be an lot of "talking" but not a lot of "doing" so I wouldn't be holding my breath waiting for SA to contribute to significant numbers.

As an aside and what I did not include in my above post, as I have such little faith in SA the first call I made was to the Victorian covid number to find out if interstate people could be vaccinated in the Victoria. I will be in Melbourne next week and figured I would just walk in however there were flaws with my plan, firstly I was a week early and second I have to wait a couple of weeks due to getting the normal flu jab. Anyhow the chap on the other end of the line said I could get the jab in Melbourne so worse case I would just wait a few weeks and head back to Melbourne as the office is not far from Jeff's Shed. Plan B was now sorted. It was only after this I started to call around the SA GPs and respiratory clinics, I now have a booking and if it gets cancelled I will be off to Melbourne for some meeting that I will need to attend in person.

I always figured SA may be problematic. The respiratory clinics seem very reliable and easy to book but they are Federally organised. While I got lucky with the first jab at an innovative clinic, my plan B was to likewise hop over to Victoria because for some reason I thought they would get that right. SA was excellent at getting the Covid testing clinics done but has dropped the ball since.

Looks like there might be now be 6 cases of blood clots after 1.1 million AZ vaccinations:

5 of the 6 were under 50.

It would be interesting to know what the actual doses per age group of the AZ doses have been. Haas this been documented anywhere?

Or at least the % of doses to under 50 v over 50.

"That certainly changes the relative risks vs the AZ shot does it not than comparing risk of death from motor vehicle accident vs risk of developing clots (& either surviving or dying). Understating the relative risks by a factor of 27 times = disinformation."

I did think that by now you may have realised why your comparison of AZ clotting events and driving accidents was way off the mark

First you don't go around and get more first doses of AZ vaccine so the incidence is indeed the number of cases per number of vaccinations.Time doesn't come into it at all.If you do develope VIPIT then you don't ever get the AZ vaccine again. If you don't get it with the first dose your chance of getting it subsequently is miniscule.

This is in stark contrast to motor vehicle accidents where unless you die you are almost certainly going to again get into a motor vehicle again so increasing your chances.More reasonable to have time come into the calculation.
Perhaps you (or I) am missing something. I never suggested the two should be compared.

I criticised the 'experts' choosing to compare risk of death in a MVA to risk of clots occuring.

I do not suggest that it is a useful nor relevant comparison, as has been reinforced by a number of articles this week, it is a fallacious choice.

This is a really stupid decision, having all vaccine capability in a single geographic region is illogical. One natural disaster can take out both.

Smart thing to do would be put anywhere but Victoria.

That's fine, NSW is more then welcome to spend the money to build a facility there.

But you suggested that AZ misrepresented the incidence by a facto of 27 when a whole year taken into account.
That as I pointed out is fallacious as nobody has a second first dose of AZ vaccine.
