Either friend or foe, professional or DYKWIAs?

I spent multiple calls and 1+hr on the phone with Air NZ today trying to buy a comfort seat (no J cabin, row of 3, row 9, hubby still trying to deal with this-I blame AFFer for ruining him).

First call to Air NZ and the advise was to just purchase an extra seat in a random name and then select our seats together. Yes, she actually told me to use a made up name to buy a airline ticket.

Me: But if I dont check in then Ms Random Name is a no show and they can sell or allocate the seat and if I check in Ms Random Name to secure my extra seat then departure will be delayed as the boarding pass isnt scanned.

Agent assured me that her advice was correct and it would not cause any issue or delays if people are just out there booking extra seats in random names and boarding flights.

Anyone else have a travel advice WTF moment?

The agent forgot to tell you the most important tip - to make the name a funny one, so they keep calling it out over the tannoy.

Yep and only couple weeks back - I tragically took advice from a former very close friend and high profile AFF identity who shall remain anonymous - suffice to say his name starts with penegal - so this misfit suggests I not stay in Hilton SIN but I should stay at Hyatt SIN - what a disaster - bed like morgue slab - aircon faulty - shower broke - and that was all in the first hour - throw in total lack of interest on Hyatt’s behalf to rectify or action any complaint - and at S$411 was about S$100 more expensive than Hilton.

Any wonder he came snivelling back this week wanting to wine and dine me at Olive Tree - can’t wait for my turn at retribution.

IIRC, The Chaser did just this to highlight the lack of ID checks at airports. Mr Terry Wrist and Al Khyder were called and no-one seem to twig.

I like a bit of undergraduate humour, so I'd go for Llew Dackt or Pat Mypeenous. Or steal of the many that Bart Simpson torments Moe with, like Amanda Huggankiss, Myra Butreaks or any of Billy Birmingham (aka The 12th man) rippers like Francis Melli.

When I was 18 I was thinking about moving to Germany for a while. Almost all of my friends and family advised me that I was crazy, it was a bad idea and it would never happen.

They were wrong.

Gawd that is bad advice but you can't choose your family eh. My kids will be given the advice that if they're not thinking of extended OS travel - years at a time - then they are crazy. Just need to figure out ways to paint the bigger picture for them that the likelihood of such travels decreases with age. I recall being a know-it-all, and upon reflection, an immature 8th grader and actually thinking "Why the hell do I need to study German, I'm not ever going there..."

I came across this one years ago. Still amusing:

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Told that Sydney was a better place to live than Melbourne and suffered many years of terrible traffic, overpriced housing and average food before waking up and moving
So, don’t leave us in suspenders, where did you move to from Melbourne?!?!
