I’ve never used the Qantas lounge before, but I have access to the Brisbane lounge heading to Sydney this week.

For my return is it worth chasing access to the Sydney lounge if travelling on a JQ flight or do the Jetstar flights depart too far away from the Qantas club?

It is up to you.

Time must be allowed to get between terminals; security is your biggest variable here. Also, you need to get to the gate before boarding closes.

Ok thanks, I’ve just seen my Jetstar flight departs T2 and as the Qantas lounge is in T3, so guess I’ll pass on the lounge for the return trip, I don’t want to travel to another terminal and go through security again.

Next time I wont skimp on my QFF points and I’ll book a Qantas flight and not Jetstar, and then I can enjoy the lounge if i get access again.

Depends on what time you get there
T3 to T2 is about a good 15minutes walk from the QF Lounge to T2 entrance (Follow signs for the Train as that's the fastest and most direct route, just don't turn into the train station but keep going).

Security at T2 can be all over the place and that's your biggest variable. So it really depends on what time you arrive at SYD airport before your flight.

It's definitely doable OP, and can be done faster than 15 minutes if you walk along outside. This option is best if you have done online check-in and don't have any bags to check (or you've dropped them off before going to T3).

My suggestion is to head left once exiting the Qantas Club, past Watermark Books and out of the exit behind it. Go down the escalators toward baggage claim but instead of going left to the belts, turn right and follow the footpath around toward T2 (toward the area marked as T2 Loading Dock on Google Maps).

This goes past the shuttle pick up and is (mostly) undercover, away from vehicles, etc. It's about a 200m walk outside (or 2-3 minutes) per Google:

Once there, take the downstairs security checkpoint which will discharge you near the Rex lounge - a short walk to most Jetstar gates. You should be able to get from QC to gate in 10-15 minutes.

This route has the added benefit of avoiding the unpredictability of security upstairs as the downstairs checkpoint is almost always very quiet. It does have limited opening hours (0500-1830ish or so) though. There was an article here about it earlier in the year:
