I 've just reserved The State Suite for a significant Birthday in June next year.
Used my online Ambassador Certificate ( so second night free - which will be a Saturday ).

Does anybody have anything to say about the 'State Suite experience' they have previously had ?

Anything one should do, prior to arrival on the day ?

Also … as there is only one State Suite, and one Australia Suite …. what's my chance of getting upgraded from State to Australia ? ( based on the latest info. I know much has been said about 'no upgrades' to Australia …. but then others have countered that ?? )

*** After watching 'Eyes Wide Shut' again recently, I thought I might get a guy in to play the piano blind-folded ….. you know, so my guests can all dance around the sheep's head naked !!

I can't comment on the State Suite but have been upgraded to the Australia Suite and Governor Suites previously.

I consider the upgrade "policy" changed significantly around 5 years ago, and they no longer upgrade to, or within, specialty suite categories.

I'd be more than happy for you to prove me wrong on that :)

Well, would you believe … there is an upgrade on the State Suite !!

Just checked my account, and my reservation now reads " ROYAL OPERA SUITE".

Never knew about this one. Anybody provide any details ? ( thanks ).

Just checked the IC Sydney webpage. " …. formerly known as the State Suite".

Geez, I was hoping it was the 'new name' for The Australia Suite !!!

Seems like an expired AMB Cert. will not be accepted ( after making some inquiries … )

I won't be risking it. I'll be renewing in April anyway ( given my booking is for June ).

But won't be waisting the April expiry … I'll be doing a weekend before expiry.

You won’t get an upgrade as the “speciality” suites is excluded from the Amb program and they will not even consider giving you the “compensation” offered if the upgrade is not available. We have found that the Amb program benefits have been eroded to the point that we will not be renewing.

Yes. That has been stated by a number of members here ....

However, they are giving the second night free ( confirmed on booking page of my logged in account ).

A few years ago, I had the Governor's Suite .... and in lieu of an upgrade, they gave me a $200. per night 'hospitality account' ( for food and drink ).

So, paid $1450. for the two nights using AMB Cert. and got $400. in room service food and drinks.

when are you staying in June? They are due to start their refurb program on 1 June and are doing a floor by floor refurb...hopefully they don’t start on the floor you are booked on.

sadly those good old days are long gone...we used to enjoy our stays there...not so much anymore to the point that we have decided to show our loyalty elsewhere in Syd. IHG is great overseas...not so much here in Australia

Thanks for tip about reburbishment.

I'll call to ask about any impact on my dates.

Geez, thanks for that.
I'll get onto them, especially since I have prepaid the three grand !!!

Mmmmm. Just called. No operator, just message.

I would think, there must still be people there .... unless they really kicked everyone out in a day ?

More than likely, the Sydney IC has been fully booked by the Govt. to house 14 day quarrantine passengers who are arriving from overseas.

@Rick93 i think they closed their doors earlier this week...before the quarantine announcement was made. This was posted on their FB page..

Mmmmm, ok.
My booking is for June.
No email from them, as yet.

I'll wait for a few weeks to see what happens.

Damn shame. We are all hurting in some regard ....

Radio 2GB did a story early this morning on people 'stuck' in 5 star hotels in Sydney ....

( free accomodation for 14 days, with $90. per day Room Service tab ).

...... and it was confirmed, that the Sydney IC is participating in this scheme.

Just hope they do a good job, cleaning the rooms after it's all over !!

I was thinking the same thing:oops:. I can imagine how filthy some of the rooms will be after a fortnight!
We still have 2 x Amb complimentary weekend nights to use.

Something like this?
Quarantine can be rough.

I just want to say that I have been FORCED into quarantine after returning from my first class cruise. The 5 star hotel I am staying in ONLY has local champagne and the spa ONLY has 4 outlets. My balcony is tiny & I can barely see the Opera House! It prison I tell you...prison!

Rolling on the floor laughing
