Can you guys recall who was the provider? Was it free? I am making it my personal mission to get SQ's WiFi up to an acceptable level!

I can't exactly remember but this is off the JAL website....

WiFi provider MEL-SIN on 24th was also T Mobile - the system was j u u u s s s t ok - slower than really acceptable but tolerable - but I have never had any luck with OnAir.

I don't need to log onnnnnnnnnn when I am flying longhaul. It would eat into my eating, drinking and sleeping time.

Ok, so I can see F saver availability for the date I want from CDG-SIN, and I can see F saver availability for a suitable connecting flight SIN-MEL, but when I put in CDG-MEL that combination is only available on standard or full points, with saver waitlisted.

Does anyone know why this is so, and is it worh phoning SQ to see if thay can join the dots?

Yes there is usually a simple explanation that the award availability for those married sectors is exhausted - usually that is reason. Makes no never mind if you can see availability on the individual sectors - there is limited award inventory when you marry the sectors. I have experienced this countless times - in the good old days some times Crystal was able to shake one loose for me but there were never any guarantees.

Absolutely waitlist but that may not help if you want certainty. YES they may well clear but who knows.

I'd agree with this.

Book two separate segments for certainty rather than waitlisting (which can be done as a "reserve" option).

Hi everyone - I'm hoping someone here with more experience with Singapore first class might be able to give me some advice...?

I currently have EK F (A380) booked for 2 - using QFF points - SYD-DXB-LGW for next April.

Now with the Amex Velocity points deal, I just have enough to swap to SQ F (First Class MEL-SIN; Suites SIN-LHR) x 2.

Difference in taxes between the two seems to be: SQ about $500 cheaper.

Any thoughts on whether I should stay with the EK booking or go to SQ? Should I stay or should I go???

I've not flown First with either EK or SQ before (but have had the privilege on JAL, QF, BA, EY). Any suggestions most gratefully accepted :)

Just my 5 cents worth - as QF awards are harder to get than SQ, I'd stick with the EK flights. QF F lounge is good plus I assume you get chauffeur drive? You would also want to check any cancellation fees.

SQ F is great but if there is no specific deal or need to swap over, save the points for the next trip.

(Very) long time lurker (and dreamer) here on this list, but for the first time I am in a position to look seriously into SQ offerings out of Oz (nothing to do with the recent AmEx Velocity offer, I've been just accumulating points in Westpac Altitude and AmEx MR).

I am looking the furthest out, which is around mid-September next year, for Oz-NY trip for 2, and I see First Savers are all waitlist, and Business Savers as unavailable. Is this expected? If I want to use EF to set up alerts, which fare classes should I be looking for?

Sitting in 3C in R on SQ12 ready to push back from NRT - ah it's good to be home after that EK wannabe - Cruiserette seriously questioning my mental state though - she just asked why wouldn't we fly direct MEL-LAX ion 15 hrs instead MEL-SIN-NRT-LAX in like 2 days? Makes perfect sense to me!

Enjoy the ride!

Well that was interesting - 380 on SQ12 NRT-LAX blew an engine on ascent - we have returned to NRT - all safe and well - crew were fantastic - our journey to LOTFAP takes another turn - will be spending night in Tokyo by the looks of it.

Good to hear all safe and well. Eventful flights like that you can do without. Did the engine "blow" or fail?

TBH 380 engine failure would be one of the few subjects on which I am not an expert - on ascent serious vibration started and continued for 20 to 30 mins or so - then announcement from Captain - we are back at gate - they are going to feed us whilst engineers assess engine - I'll update in 3 Krugs time if that is ok?

Hopefully they don't swap the plane to a non-a380.

Will not matter either way - as long as we get their in one piece I'd accept a Cessna.

Dinner on board cut short once accom arranged - we are now sitting up in Terrace Bar in Hilton Narita about to eat before turning in - replacement metal will be flown in o/n with about midday rep tomorrow - I think.
