Note
Bus to Tung Chung is about HK$3
MTR from there to city is about HK$18 each way......

My very biased view of your opportunities.
Have coffee and breakfast at airport - you've arrived early
Get Octopus cards at MTR service desk
MTR to Central - bus to Stanley and back
( I think the AB exit and cross the street to bus)
taxi or bus (15B or C?) to Peak tram terminus
Lunch at Peak - tram back down
taxi to pier for Mui Wo ferry
bus from Mui Wo to Ngong Ping wander in gardens
see Big Buddha - weather permitting:shock:
cable car back to Tung Chung
taxi or previously mentioned $3 bus to airport.
Refund the octopus cards unless you are returning within 3 years.
Dinner and lounge

Other possibilities
Mid-level escalators (still on my list)
The Hong Kong tram past North Point and back.

Enjoy

Some very good ideas so far but after all the un-necessary flights in the last couple of days I am leaning to a hotel room and hopefully checking in around lunch time and sleeping for a few hours and then

Star Ferry cruise on Victoria Harbour and
Victoria Peak

Plenty of time for me to explore the other options on another transit through HKG that does not involve multiple flights before and after transit.

Hmmm, I was sure the sign at the airport said HK$150 for same day return. Wonder if its different for Octopus cards?
I vaguely remember paying HKD100 a couple of years for a same day return.

If you have $ to spare you can take a helicopter to macau - 15 mins each way and leaves every 30 mins. HKD2300 all inclusive pp each way.
Not a lof of $ left after day trip to Niagara Falls yesterday but either way a helicopter is entirely out of the question unless I am unconscious somewhere and need to be rescued.

The Tung Chung MTR (18HK$ to / from city) is the other end of the mall from the Novotel Citigate. They provide free shuttle between arrivals and hotel and departures. But the prices for their rooms are sensitive to commercial show schedules in HKG and adjoining China.

Happy napping

I just did a 16.5 hour tranist in HKG last Saturday (arriving at 07:25am and leaving at 11:55pm). I caught Airport Express (for the first time) to HK Island for 100HKD same day return.

BUT

For Octopus card you cannot have more than 8 transactions between your Airport Express trip to HK and coming back to Airport. This is because of the limitation of the Octopus card where it remembers 10 transactions only. That is what the information staff told me, and it is somehow not written anywhere.

Since I always use Octopus card to buy goods (eg at 7-11 or Circle K stores), I ended up buying the same day return Airport Express ticket separately from using Octopus card. And you will end up keeping the Airport Express ticket as souvenir as there are no exit gates at the Airport!

The ferry ride to Macau and return is a lot cheaper. On return you can go straight from Macau to airside at the airport (you checkin when you get off the ferry) and you get a refund of the HK departure tax. :D

I have been on these same flights twice now. I did the Star Ferry around the harbour and the Peak. These will take around 4 hours. I used the train into town. Had no problem leaving the airport or re-entering and The Star ferry terminal is a 5 minute walk for the train station. The Peak tram station is around 15 minutes walk from the ferry terminal
