Strategy to obtain US Amex

PC desktop. I don't think it's a computer problem but it's probably picking up the fact that there is something unverified on your account. At what stage are you getting the msg?
From memory i was able to get sms from day 1, recently there has been a couple of occissions where c1 required to call me back to do verification. I have spoken with a supervisor as well, which did not seem to help.
Its the 2nd time c1 has created a case for me, figures crossed it will work this time.

You can ask them to send you a scan for $2 .
If it’s a card they will refuse and say it’s a card .
If not they will send you a scan .
If it’s a card you can trash or have it sent .
Actually it's worth it for the data points on PE to BNE for the extra $9. It could save me heaps in the future if I know what to expect from the cheapest postage. And it's still trackable.

it may vary as PE may use different modes and partners each time .seems to be the case for the option I have used .

Hi all - been lurking for a while working through the posts and finally posting now!

When last in the States I got a free(!) US Mobile eSIM and used that to set up a Google Voice number so can receive SMS/calls when travelling. Didn't realise at the time but clearly should have used my time being physically in the US to open a local checking account, but hadn't found this thread at that point!

I then setup my mail forwarding address and applied for Hilton Aspire card via Amex GT (have had Amex Plat at home for over 10y).

Application completed and told decision pending. Nothing further after a fortnight so called, told needed a letter from my bank.

By this time I'd completed the notary call for my mail forwarding address so could access the letter scans. Amex had sent one with the following:

Here's what we need from you
• Your home address. Please provide a letter from your bank confirming your home address. To ensure timely resolution, please ensure the letter is on original letterhead from the bank and contains the following:
- The banker's name, title, hours of availability and signature
- Confirmation of your home address
- Main number to the bank branch
- An extension or personal line to the banker when applicable

This information is essential to your personal protection as well as our records.
• Your full name. Please contact us to confirm your name.

You can provide the required information by:
• Accessing our secure document upload center by going to americanexpress.com/upload.
• Calling us at 1-800-567-1083.
• Mailing the following requested documents to us in the enclosed postage-paid envelope.

I found the name confirmation bit slightly weird given I'd clicked through from my existing Plat account! Tried uploading a Wise bank statement (after updating address) for address proof - no luck. Received the same letter again (albeit with a new slightly later deadline date to supply the info).

After reading more on here I then opened an HSBC US Prem account (making use of my existing home Prem account) - at first they seemed thrown by me supplying a US mobile number (which I thought would be almost a requirement!) but after getting over that they only asked for proof of 4 US visits/year which was easy to satisfy using existing flight receipts and a quick points booking for an 'upcoming' trip that seemed to do the trick and account opened. Have subsequently transferred cash in via Wise (HSBC Global View exchange rates were rubbish!)

I'd be grateful for any thoughts re the below questions:
  1. Has anyone had this sort of very precise bank letter requirement before? Should a statement still suffice? If not will HSBC be able to supply that sort of letter or will I need to open a checking account in person with another bank when next in the States?
  2. If I change the mailing address on my HSBC account (via the website or have to call?) will that show on the statement OK? I'm guessing I need to wait a month for statement to be generated - am thinking I'll not change the address immediately to make sure the debit card gets shipped direct
  3. Do I just have to accept this application via Amex GT is dead and let it lapse or is it worth calling them to see if they'll extend the deadline? Can I immediately apply via GT again once I have the statement or is there some sort of waiting time?
  4. In the meantime I've asked my HSBC 'welcome adviser' re the process for applying for the HSBC Prem Elite credit card as benefits/earning rates seem pretty decent despite the fee, esp given the decent sign-up bonus. Not sure if you are able to hold that and the normal HSBC Prem credit card simultaneously? (it also has a respectable SUB and different bonus points categories on spend!)
  5. I assume most folks are just using Wise to pay off CC bills, any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any help!

PS @DAC1 - would you mind DM'ing me the details of your Fiverr person for ITIN? Thinking might be handy to have in the future if I want to branch out from Amex (assuming I actually get somewhere with them!)

1. HSBC statement will suffice
2. Can change mailing on the website takes a couple days and will show on statement as long as you have a transaction during the month.
3. I think some people have been able to get AMEX to do a 3 way call with HSBC, i didn't need so can't confirm.
5. many do along with other checking accounts they may have open.

Ah, welcome!

N0mad has pretty much covered it - I wasn't asked for anything by Amex, but that was a few years ago. HSBC's statement should do the trick from what I've read of others' experiences. I don't think you need to abandon this app though.

I've spoken with others and it doesn't seem like HSBC US will let us hold both the Prem and Elite cards concurrently; others have swapped cards though.

I pay CC bills using HSBC, but Wise also does the job as long as you've got local details (ACH number etc.) and not just an IBAN. Some Revolut accounts also have local US details, there's no rhyme or reason behind who gets them (P2 got them, I didn't, when querying it they said it was because she'd made USD transfers - she had not, yet I had, so that was nonsense!).

Can’t hold both at once. Only one or the other.

Hi All, Question regarding to Amex reconsideration practice.

In the past 8 months, I have noticed a few times, my P2 applications were rejected and when we tried to call for reconsideration, P2 was directed to select either submit bank statements or authorize a direct access to bank account via an authorized link.

For those few times, I selected to connect to P2 bank account hoping to speed up the process. However always received a negative outcomes afterwards - Rejection.

It happened again today. So I reached out to see what any of you have done lately and please share your DP / thoughts - just for some different perspective on my next move. Should I leave a large amount of money in checking account for a better chance - if any DP?

I am hoping to hear if you encountered this and resulted in your favor outcome?

Hi all

New here, been reading this thread and the go to method for starting the US credit card journey is doing GT to US amex.

So far I got the HSBC US premier checking acct for address proof but:

1. Can't do GT since i can't get AU amex. Applied for a non-bonus card but still got rejected because of churning hehe. And the nova credit option has disappeared from US amex website. Any other ways to get a US card to build US credit history?

2. For the US premier checking acct, do we still gotta pay the $50 monthly fee if we have AU premier status?

Grateful for any advice!

Even HSBC Premier CC 50K bonus is easy to get if you are their Premier customers.

Grateful for any advice!

Was pre-approved and accepted the offer for VX with this link with a massive limit. All these days I was trying with the link available on C1 website and was always pre-approved for the Savor card.
I have a Checking account with C1. Was a straight forward approval. Hopefully the card lands up at Torrance.
Was also interested in the Atmos card but guess will now wait so as to be able to spend the "minimum spend"
Package showed up in 3 days and has been shipped out to AU using DHL.
PE seems expensive compared to MyUS. For a similar package myus charged $35ish while PE has charged $70.. not sure if thats cause im on their free tier.
