Hi

Hopefully a simple question for the experts...

I have a work trip booked to Perth from Canberra flying economy.

Thinking about using points to upgrade to business but i need to try to keep as many status credits as possible in quest for platinum.

If i use points to upgrade from economy to business do i get business class status credits or do i get no status credits because it is then a redemption flight?????

Thanks
David

You earn Status Credits based on the fare purchased. So that would be either full or discount economy depending on the fare basis purchased.

You will get SCs in the class you originally paid to travel in.

edited to add: OK guess I was 2 mins too slow in responding. :p

G'day duram70, welcome back to AFF.

You comments prompted a memory that there was an issue two to three years ago with the QFF software that processed allocations for points/SC's.

Often, upgrading would result in no SC's or points being awarded for a flight at all. It took a call/claim to Qantas to get them credited.

I have not experienced this issue in the last 18 months so I suspect the bug has been fixed.

So rest assured, you'll get your paid for SC's and QFF points.

This happened to me just before Christmas, although slightly different circumstances. I used points to upgrade to J for the return leg of a domestic flight, using the online upgrade facility on the QF website. I ended up cathing an earlier flight back to MEL, so there was a bit of a problem ensuring that the upgrade seat was still available on the earlier flight (thankfully it was :)). No points or SC posted for this flight, however this was easily rectified by calling Qantas. Their explanation was that the upgraded flight had been incorrectly moved to an award code meaning that it was ineligible for points and SC.
