SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Yeah, it's been like that for a while. Absolutely no stock of any premium BPs ex-MEL, so you have to get a new one printed at SIN (but only if you have an onwards flight from SIN, don't worry I've asked if they can re-print the MEL-SIN one, no bueno no cigar unfortunately).
I've got a J and F return from Melbourne next year. Ive always wanted a nice BP, so.i can frame/keep it. Ill get mine reissued in Singapore!
Didn't know reprinting was possible
Thanks for the tip

Wow, you must have been one of the last redemptions to have made it through the cull! There's completely nil availability passed over to VA from UA - in Y there is but none in J!
With that SYD-MEL-LAX ticket, how hard was it to find? Or you just stumbled upon availability and snapped it?
From all my reading/research/dummy searches, it appeared that UA was releasing J space to VA only about T-0 to T-30, and it varied by route. I was gunning for SFO-MEL on UA60, but since the end of July it all dried up.

Me too, I'm actually flying SEA-SFO-SYD (and then SYD-MEL separately on a VA flight in the afternoon, so plenty of breathing room in case of delays on SFO-SYD).

Crossing my fingers tightly that the MUA comes through, or else it's going to be a long long flight at the back of the bus (and not a good way to end a trip that started with the excitement that you read about in the OP)....
It was hard and I got lucky, especially given my dates were only flexible +/- one day. I've seen some VA rewards in J to LAX and SFO on ANA come up recently but not consistently. I'm flying back a few days later on UA 839, also booked about the same time. Feeling fortunate. Good luck.

Amazing. Enjoy the trip - and yeah, as soon as you get out of your SQ2*8 flight in SIN, go straight to the transfer desk, get the onwards ex-SIN flight re-printed, then hold onto that for dear life!
Then go to the lounge and lounge around, haha.

Jeez, that's lucky. Well done. Enjoy the trip - you're meeting an ex-PanAm flight attendant? What a trip.

Correct - will post about this before I go. Gotta do some work this arvo. SBD

Not here it's not. Flying J or F, for the most of us, represents the culmination of a plan that was hatched well before take off and which required significant time, effort, and research, and all manner of points scavenging, careful and targeted spending, together with a decent dollop of good fortune. You're right to be excited when the plan comes to fruition - the harder fought the better won. Well done and enjoy 👍
Love this 💛 sums up my approach beautifully

The expectation exists truly for me but last year that was blown out of the water; in a fantastic way.

Thursday morning I'm contemplating my trip that evening. MEL-SIN-HKG in I on SQ208 (6pm) then to HKG on SQ898 (7pm). Planning to work from lounge Friday.

My schedule was to arrive MEL 3pm that afternoon.

Call came asking me to switch to 9am Friday SQ238 ... in F. :eek:Accepted and arranged to not work Friday.

Any spare time rest of Thursday was researching TPR and other aspects of SQ F travel.

🍾

Yep that's incredible. Well done and well deserved @serfty. Did you have a waitlist for SQ238 on the Friday? That must've been one incredible flight experience.

No waitlist. I deliberately planned a 16-hour transit. The Thursday night flight I was booked on had been showing J0 for at least a fortnight.

Just a bit of housekeeping - had a FABULOUS F trip MEL-SIN on Aug 9 - this my fave outbound flt from MEL heading to China - arrives in plenty time to head downtown SIN to spend the night.

Crew on this sector was just FANTASTIC - there were only 2 in F so service should have been spot on but indeed it was. Krug onboard and BTC Beef Tenderloin you cannot go wrong - shame on you SQ for offering that Clonakilla O’Riada Shiraz in F - this wine never was, is or will be quality enough to offer in any F cabin - shame on you SQ

Did I mention the crew were fantastic?

Flt SIN-OVG unfortunately I could only get 828 dep SIN 07:30 - jeez I hate this flt - they serve bfast which is always do do ordinary - I ate in TPR b4 boarding so BTC Vesl Chop for pre arr into PVG / I just hate this early flt so nothing more to report.

Now to return from China had F booked PEK-SIN/SIN-MEL - long long story but I cancelled those flts and booked CX PVG-HKG-MEL - big mistake …..BIG MISTAKE and 1 I will never make again.

Edit: Oh I forgot to include the menus - MEL-SIN and SIN-PVG

What gifts did you give the staff?😄

My original plan of using QF points on EK for a July 2026 EU trip is out the window with availability of seats gone on EK..

So my attention turns to, where will the refitted A350's fly now :D

A big year of SQ travel in 2026 as both the +1 and I take a very light year of work.. and we take the kids out of school before they hit Secondary school.

March/April EU/UK
July/August EU
Dec/Jan EU/UK

Means we'll all be Solitaire members by end of the year, and I should hit PPS, will help with future redemptions :)

Nice - I wish the flight timings for F SIN-MEL were a bit more friendly :(

My step father has made a redemption nominee booking for his wife. Unfortunately due to extenuating medical circumstances, this booking will need to be cancelled. Does he, as the Krisflyer account holder do it, or does his wife? Also I was thinking about asking SQ to waive the cancellation fee (we can provide medical evidence) Any thoughts on how and who should do this?

Sorry to hear :(

He would need to do it, unless the redemption nominee was added as a "Authorised nominee"

SQ being SQ - I don't think they will waive anything :(

He should call and explain situation - I disagree on SQ inflexible with cancellation fees - if he explains genuine reason why they will ask you to forward substantiating docs and it should not be a problem

I did this for my dad. SQ were extremely accommodating. Just call. It was a redemption I booked for him using my points

I emailed them the letter from the doc as evidence

An unusual SQ experience.. We. Are on paid J
tickets on SQ due to school holidays and deciding on our trip a little late. It is SIN- BNE early October. Fortunately they had a sale at the time. Now for award bookings I am always making sure that they are ticketed. Didn’t think I needed to be for paid tickets. But last week got an email with the etickets. So went to the booking and no seat assignment and VA number gone and SQ numbers instead.
Fortunately they responded quickly to the online form and everything back as it was.

Sorry to hear of the medical issues. I’ve recently cancelled SQ rewards flights for my wife and there is an option online to cancel/modify with a Dr letter and no fees are charged. The points were returned in just over 24hrs. Don’t cancel form Manage Bookings use the Assistance Request form - https://www.singaporeair.com/get-help/changesandrefunds

When I was diagnosed with cancer in 2023 I asked my specialist for a letter of explanation so I could cancel the CX redemption tickets I had booked and hopefully have my points returned. She said she'd never written such a letter and suggested I send her what I wanted. I did this and she didn't change a word, just letterheaded and signed it. CX requested the letter emailed and whilst I was on the phone agreed to the return of points. Hopefully SQ do same for you.
