232 when I booked but a 777 today. As usual I had booked 14D,F. Not notified of change of aircraft and given 23D,F. Not thrilled especially as Mrsdrron was last for lunch order and her choice was taken originally but later told not available. Mrsdrron is not a lady to trifle with and she ended up with the original choice.

A report from up the back in economy. I do think the cabin manager has a very strong influence on the service during a flight. On recent flight SIN-FRA (day time flight), the scene was set at the start of the flight for us. As Solitaire PPS status, we usually get a welcome on board at the start of the flight, along with a bottle of water. I'm not a DYKWIA person, so whether I get the welcome or not is neither here nor there. However - it does set the scene for the flight and does show how well the crew are being managed. Sometimes you get welcomed by a flight attendant looking after your area, sometimes it will be the cabin supervisor, sometimes the overall cabin manager and often it will be 2 of these or all 3. IME, there's a strong correlation, the more welcomes the better the service (for everyone) in the economy cabin for the whole flight.

On this flight - no welcome at all (nor drink served with meal first which is also a usual "privilege"). Throughout the flight the cabin crew seemed disorganised, not a lot of cabin patrolling or water runs (particularly on daytime flights SQ usually proactively go through the flight with trays of water and juice - only saw 2 of these in 12+ hours). At one point in the toilets I noted there was no toilet paper and they were very un-SQ-like in terms of cleanliness. My working theory is poor cabin management = poor service.

Sounds fair. Recently went SYD-SIN-MUC vv in economy, and found the comfort, service and meals consistently excellent. Very happy crew each sector and always willing to help pax with anything. SQ really does make long Y flights bearable.

To prove dajop's theory, I noticed the cabin manager on the last sector, Mr Singh, spent most of the flight in the aft galley mucking in with the Y crew and that crew was superb.
 
On SQ238 MEL-SIN this cool morning. Completely full flight. In fact, loads ex MEL are excellent despite their being 5 SQ flights a day. Apparently the ME airlines suffering somewhat due to instability in the Gulf at the moment.

No turbulence so far so no disruption to service.

MEL ground crew interested in feedback on lounge. A new F menu introduced recently.
 
On SQ238 MEL-SIN this cool morning. Completely full flight. In fact, loads ex MEL are excellent despite their being 5 SQ flights a day.

Probably also helped by the removal of EK’s long standing fifth freedom between MEL and SIN. Unless I start the journey elsewhere I’ve given up taking SQ on my regular SIN to MEL return flights. Rarely below $1500 return in economy.


Prices in upcoming school holidays and the shoulder period around them (+/- 2-3 weeks) between MEL and SIN are as low as $1100 one way - without luggage - on Scoot. Normally can snare these for $200-$300 one way. As a Solitaire on SQ usually I can get an award waitlist to clear in economy but not at end of June of course (going to visit friends in SE Qld first instead before returning to SIN on an SQ award out of BNE instead of MEL, as it seems far less busy).
 
Cancelled because loads were abysmal, I heard.
Not surprising, particularly given the timing of the return flight with 2/3am departure. Previous departure time of 6/7pm ex MEL was much more palatable.

Fares also seemed to be very high (compared to pre Covid), always same as QF or higher whereas before Covid you could often snare EK for considerably cheaper than QF metal.
