SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

SUCCESS - It can be done.

2 x Saver Award tickets booked in R - SYD-SIN-LHR in May 2023 on SQ222/308, giving us an overnight in Singapore on the way. Both flights currently on the A380 (but changes could occur) - 2A and 2F reserved on both flights, thanks to advice on this Thread.

I've been saving these miles for ages, all from flights. Now to get the returns in 6 weeks or so. Thanks again to Ken1 - I searched at 1000 today.
Congratulations mel-world! You said you've selected 2A and 2F for each flight. As listed on the SQ seat map two sets of Suites can be turned into a Double Suite. "To enjoy this feature, you must book adjoining Suites, ie Suites 1A & 2A or 1F & 2F."

So if you are travelling with a partner and want to try that you can select 1A & 2A or 1F & 2F. I've watched some Youtube video reviews of SQ A380 Suites and a partition goes down between the two Suites to make a very large combined Suite!

We'll be flying SYD-SIN-LHR in February and will be on SQ242 in F on a B777-300ER and then on SQ308 in Suites and we've selected 1F and 2F for that flight. It will be our first time flying F and R and we'll be celebrating our 38th Wedding anniversary a week after our flight.

Thanks for the hint. Both our flights are day flights but have changed the SIN-LHR sector to 1F, 2F.

Evening Folks does anyone know if SIA are using the Old A380s between SYD-SIN-FRA. I'm travelling Business and hoping they still using Old layout. Any info appreciated

No they’re not using the old layout any more on any routes. Only refurbed A380s are returning to service.

Only fair to give some praise for good service after the atrocious run I have had.
First cancelled an award flight but site wouldn't accept my amex for the redeposit fee even though a few minutes before it accepted it making a new award. A message came up that I would be contacted soon by SMS and email on how to pay. This was the email I received.

Your booking will be cancelled if it is not completed by 05 Jun 2022, 18:17 (GMT +8).
If you have other waitlisted flights in this booking, please contact your local Singapore Airlines office to confirm your booking.
Do note that the ticketing deadline may change if any of your waitlisted flight(s) becomes confirmed.
Thank you for choosing Singapore Airlines and we look forward to welcoming you on board our flight.

So I reluctantly rang the 13 number. Answered on third ring. Obviously a newbie answered but virtually immediately transferred to a lovely agent who had everything fixed in 2 minutes. Fantastic.

I am trying to book a redemption:

One way MEL-SIN-LHR in F on SQ metal // transit less than 24 hours // LHR-WAW-OTP in J on LO metal. I am being told by multiple call centre agents that although it is reserved in Amadeus, it can't be ticketed as it is mixed class.

I have done mixed class/mixed airline routes before and it should charge as highest class and end-to-end. So in this case, 163k miles plus taxes. Is there a magic form of words I can say to help the agents get this ticketed?

Not sure this will help, but did you try Star Alliance one-way award?

I think I have said that but will make sure to say it if I have to HUACA. On hold still. The best they can do is price it as two separate redemptions and they think they are doing me a favour by doing that. If the worst comes to the worst, I will fly a few days earlier, see my mum in LHR and pay for a cheap revenue ticket to Bucharest - basically creating a stopover.

HUACA is the only option, if you want it all in one PNR.

This is the case with SQ customer service these days, the need to cut those crazy wait times led to massive recruitment of inexperienced agents who where taught the basic dealings with revenue tickets. The agents who can deal with points bookings are still few and far between and even among them most are not experienced in more complicated *A itineraries.

Most of my tickets are similar to yours (mixed SQ F and *A J) so I feel your pain but I can tell you once you get a good agent they will ticket you itinerary in no time, it’s just a matter of rolling the dice enough times until such an agent picks up your call. On the bright side, at least waiting times are back to normal :)

Thanks Boomy. I had made SQ-F and *A-J bookings before Covid. But the more I look at this one, the more I am tempted to fly a week or two earlier, see my mum and get trains to București. A couple of Euro-J flights at anti-social hours is no great loss, and the trains look interesting. I have pulled the trigger on MEL-SIN-LHR a week earlier and have waitlisted for some that are earlier still.

I'm on a roll. just got emails from SQ saying they are refunding everything for the HND - sin awards that I had been tearing my hair out for 3 months trying to do.

FTR - I just cancelled online confirmed J rdpt MEL-SIN-FRA Oct 25 - pts back in account instantly - $s back to CC up to 6 weeks according to SQ Web Site - I will post again when $s appear in CC 👍

I see on menu for TPR they are offering boomy’s favourite vinegar Comtes - do not fear - just ask TPR Staff if they would mind fetching you a Rare from F Lounge - they will willingly oblige and you will have a brand new unopened Rare in front of you quick smart 👍
I don’t understand why the Rare isn’t in TPR 🤷🏻‍♀️

There’s also a nice grand cru in TPR but I don’t think you can handle complex burgs. Not to worry, the good ppl at SQ added a wine just for you - The Bogan :)

Surprisingly for you that is extremely funny - why don't you bring some of that humour to the table at OT instead of you and qaz sitting there bragging how you saved thrupence on some dodgy watery pinot or burgundy - that would be a pleasant and positive change 👍

Anyone seen the following error?

Due to a system limitation, the flights for the origin and destination you have selected cannot be displayed. Please select another date/itinerary.

See below.

Trying to book a J redemption MEL-BCN for next year, and this error appears when looking towards the end/edge of the available calendar. Sometimes occurs when looking at other, closer dates too.
