SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

You’ll also find that for European cities, only London has the new suites and only on particular flights.

You may get some new suites on saver waitlist for close in bookings. No chance at all for advance bookings next year.

The old suites and 777 F are not bad, give them a go.
Honestly, MEL-SIN on a 777 isn’t too bad. On SQ ‘F’ really is ‘F’, and the service, food and amenities are the same regardless of the equipment. The old suites are just fine, perhaps preferable depending on who you talk to. And the 777, given the seat goes to a flat bed quickly and easily, is probably better for maximising sleep rather than having to convert to a bed.
Thnaks guys. Appreciate it.

It's feedback like this that saves on alot of heartache and headache and hours on the phone to find out.

Looks like if they're going from melb. The older suites for the first leg might be th e better option. As long as they get a 380 for the second leg.. I personally saw the YouTube videos for the older suites and thrgiht they were hideous and old :)

I'm going to personslly make a few SQ F bookings in the next 2 years for myself so trying to get the best expereince,

if I get one leg Old suites, and 1 leg new suites, Id be fairly happy,

however the old suites do look a hell of a lot smaller than the new ones,

but im glad the food and wine is all the same

I just had a trip on both, for the first time a couple of weeks ago, back from FRA to SYD
to be honest I enjoyed the older suites better as it was a day flight & a long ~12hr flight from FRA.
The SIN to SYD flight was in the brand new suites SQ221, an evening flight and due to the time I don't feel like I experienced it properly.

Well... it depends who you read regarding the new suites... the bed is supposedly rock hard, the suites are very exposed during the meal service (you’re basically staring at the stranger in the suite opposite), the leg rest is way too short, and the seat isn’t that comfortable. I don’t recall the old suites getting the same negatives on introduction.

As for the 777... seat comfort is all important! And the service. You’ll get this on the 777 and a380, same same.

sleep wise I personally had no issues and had awesome sleep on both old & new.
I only woke up when I could hear the stewardess calling my name on the 3rd or 4th attempt.

yes to the stranger in your face during dining, that was amusing. the guy opposite wanted his door closed lol

So you have to have it open???

I did see the YouTube videos on it and though it must have been optional?

well i guess its easier for the staff to move about and save them from knocking :p
I had no qualms either way, was busy watching my movie, then was easier for them to come & go :)

8 an basing my views on a few YouTube videos

However
Purely on a cosmetic basis.
It looks hideously 80s and dated.

Having flown the original Suites and the Etihad Apartments on our last European trip given the choice I would take old Suites any day.

SQ F soft product more than makes up for the difference in aesthetics.

If old suites is lightly loaded having meals in a separate suite then sleeping in the centre pair is much better as a couple.

My plan for next year is book the old Suites or 777 F and waitlist the new if possible.

If you have never flown Suites then I would be wanting to fly the original Suites before they disapear.

New suites will eventually be available at saver rates.

Unfortunately that leaves you with the potential you'd end up with something that looks great, but is uncomfortable :(

That was the thing about United First... a much disparaged product and avoided by many. But those old suites were some of the most comfortable beds flying.

I slept like a baby, but after the vodka shots with caviar that followed the lengthy sampling of Krug and Dom,topped by a little cognac nightcap or two. I think I could have happily slept on the floor. But the bed could well have been rock hard I guess.

Saying it is 80s is overly harsh.

To me it is more classic railway carriage.

Trust me when you are ensconced in 3D with Krug being served by a Singapore girl you wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the world.

To be honest. So many people saying even the older suites are better than the new ones is a very encouraging post.
I am more than happy to give them a try now:)

As long as the food and alcohol and service is the same.

But definitely at saver rates though ... Can't fathom spending 500k plus points on them

First class has the same service regardless of the aircraft - 777, A380 suites or A380 new suites.

Service, amenities and food differences are dependent on the length of the flight and the time the flight departs (for example supper, breakfast and brunch services don't have caviar).

Regular passengers are paying between $10,000 and $20,000 dollars to fly the 'old' first class and suites. They don't drop that sort of money on a bad product.

just flew SQ321 (LHR-SIN) which is a 2205 departure and 'supper' per the menu - got the caviar but no satay, so think it may depend.

anyone know the differences for SIN-SYD 241/211/288? on 241 shortly which is continental breakfast (skip via breakfast in TPR) and then lunch

maybe those later flights are the brunch ones?

That’s interesting. I just looked up a menu for the 321... TBH that is looking pretty much like a dinner menu given the size and number of courses. Regular ‘supper’ services are usually reduced. Maybe they don’t want to list dinner and dinner?

yeah it was a full service. we stopped after mains as were exhausted and had dessert later in the flight.

was breakfast as pre-arrival meal which was a bit strange given landed at 6pm!

for those of you that overnight at the crowne plaza changi - do you just eat at the hotel? check out the foodcourt in the basement of t3? etc?

for the experts, is beign waitlisted a one in a million chance to get the seat

I know someone who in march booked a Jflight, Syd to SIN to LHR for August and got it afte about 2weeks,
and they were confident they were goign to get the allocated flights
