Does SQ pre-allocate seats for international flights? Is it only for Kris Flyer members with status?

My mother is travelling SYD-SIN-ATH next week and still no seat allocated from what I can see on Virtually There. The tickets we purchased in February and a request was put in for forward aisle. Yes, yes I know everyone wants forward aisle.

I guess we will now have to wait until checkin to find out seat allocation. Checkin opens 3 hours before flight?

Yup for many SQ pax no pre allocation of seating. If she has *G status (or higher) then be sure her FFP# is entered against the booking.

She can OLCI at T-48 hours. If booked on SQ's website and have status with them then can also select particular seats at any time.

Thanks. No status, in fact not even Kris Flyer member. Aisle seat has been confirmed on PNR.

Looks like visit to checkin counter at T-4 hours and hope to be one of the first in line. Anyone guess which checkin counter SQ uses in SYD?

Note that you should be able to OLCI at T-48 hours (as posted by K/F); I saw a work associate do this and it seems quite simple.

Hmmm.... Even without Kris Flyer membership? I would love to find out how!

you do not need to be krisflyer member to do OLCI.

just do it on the singaporeair.com site, at T-48 hours.

I think you will find that it is the aisle seat request that is confirmed, not the actual allocation of an aisle seat that has been confirmed. They are saying "yes, we acknowledge that you have requested an aisle seat".

Thanks. Will check the SQ website 3:41pm this Sunday. :)

To clarify, anyone can OLCI when check in by OLCI opens for the flight at T-48 hours. I think that is also the time SMS check in opens, but less sure on that one (as I've never used it).

Apologies for not being clear enough.

Thanks to all who offered the very useful advice.

My mother was pre-allocated 55C on the SYD-SIN sector and 32G on the SIN-ATH sector. I checked her in online and was able to allocate 34G, with vacant 34F, on the SYD-SIN sector.

Not really a downside but it appears that once checked in online you cannot check in again.

She can still change seat at the check in counter.

Don't have to guess;) Row "H"...it is one of the last rows as you drive up to the departure terminal at Syd.

I have changed my seat online after doing OLCI:p

I was hoping to monitor availability online. Not that there is anything wrong with 34G mind you. She will have a much more enjoyable trip if 34F remains vacant. It looks like a good chance at the moment as there is still WHY availability all the way down to W9 Q9.

Just booking spouse on points BNE - SIN for Oct and she has her seat allocated. My paid fare doesn't allow this apparently and I have to wait until OLCI.

There seems to be some doubt whether we can sit together - experiences anyone?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I think SIA uses Sabre and therefore you need to use VirtuallyThere to display bookings.
no, SQ do not use Sabre. They have their own booking engine. Bookings made on-line with SQ can be viewed via their web site. Otherwise there is no such on-line tool for SQ reservations.

Thanks John but this site doesn't respond either, like Amadeus.
I am having the same issues with a TG award booking.

I may be a good idea to call SIA and get the 2 bookings linked. Also make sure that your preference is recorded in the PNR. As a Kris Flyer member you will have a seat pre-allocated sometime before T-48 hours.

If you use OLCI at T-48 hours you should have a very good chance of getting seats together in the WHY cabin. From my two previous experiences with mums recent flights I don't think too many travellers use this facility as there was still very good seats available in the forward economy cabin and her flights were almost full.
