SQ J - A350 or 777?

I intend to book an SQ J redemption, BNE-SIN and it appears there are A350 and 777 options.

Which is the preferable?

For that matter, would PE be preferable on one over J on the other?

The 772 on BNE runs, has the oldest SQ fully flat business class seats, which are quite wide (some say too wide, but never a problem for me) , and some find uncomfortable, particularly for sitting in (although careful placement of the two cushions that are provided always helps to improve comfort). The A350 seat is much newer, so looks fresh and new, but is narrower and a little more cramped so gets complaints from taller and wide shouldered people. But either is OK. Choose the time that suits you best.

And, the business class on 772 is a lot better than PE on 350. The absence of someone reclining in your face, and all aisle access is a huge plus.

Is it the 777-300ER (1 x 2 x 1) or the 777--200ER refitted? Could also be 2x2x2 if unlucky. The 200's are much older.

If it's latter then it's a no brainer - A350 all the way. I personally find the 777-300ER business seats very comfortable for a day flight and also manage to sleep well in the evening. The A350 seats are a little narrower.

Out of Perth the 772's we have are either 1x2x1 or 2x2x2.

Out of BNE, it's the refitted 200ER version with 1-2-1 seating.

OK thanks ... I have no idea but will have a look and see what I can see, but it sounds like the 350 is preferable despite the narrower seats? Likely a day time flight.

I did the A350 ex BNE a month or so back. J class was excellent. Go for a day flight IMO

And this has been discussed on another thread - a lot of people don't like the "shoebox" footwell on the A350-900 when in bed mode. Personally my 180cm frame can get my legs in just fine (A350) having done it about 6 times now (all thanks to JS)
Though, I slightly prefer the 777 - all this baloney about the 350 and the Dreamliner being quieter and lower altitude is just that - baloney! I always arrive with a bit of a headache, no matter who I fly with. So the cabin altitude has never helped.
Re the lower engine noise - in fact it can be too quiet when the snorer 3 rows back keeps me awake!

SQ J is a dream.

I have not flown in any SIN B777 configurations so cannot comment.
The A350 is not very nice IMHO. Very tight for space or you sit sideways.

That's not good. Are you speaking of J? The option of the 777 is at a time I'd rather not choose (18:00 - 00:15). The cramped legwell in bed config does not really bother me so much for a daytime flight, but I'd not be too impressed to be sitting sideways in J!

A350 is newer and better and the screens on the 777 are really old. If you get the bulkhead seat on the 777 they are huge and IMO better to sleep.

I am referring to J on the A350. I haven’t tried the B777 or the A380 so can’t comment. (We are catching an A380 SIN - MEL on 28th November)

I took SQ 256 on the 350 recently (0910 departure from BNE) and while we were in row 19 I sat and lay in row 20 for a while to see what all the fuss was about.

I am significantly taller than average and I thought it was great for a day flight with the IFE nice and close and I wouldn't hesitate to book it for a night flight.

Get rows 11 or 19 if you can, but even if you can't, it's still a nice product for an 8 hour flight. We will be missing it in BNE once SQ changes us over to regional J on the 350s.

My biggest annoyance was the stupid push-down-pop-up design of the tray table which kept accidentally hitting with my arm.

I have flown all of them except for the brand new A380; the 777-200 , 777-300, A350 and 'old' A380. I can't feel a lot of difference to be honest. They are all wonderful, compared to Y.
As long as you are in a 1-2-1 seat configuration, which you can check and choose BEFORE you confirm and pay then you will be fine!

No way, wouldn't bother with that, the difference will be marginal if at all. The A350 has a sound product, and the service should be outstanding. Biggest problems with A350's are a) for back sleepers in bed mode, can be a problem (less of a problem for side sleepers, and b) for those who were used to the ultra wide original SQ fully flat seats, the newer versions seem rather narrow.

Don't forget to go into your booking a few weeks before departure, to compare the onboard menu (which is listed online about 3-4 weeks before travel) with "Book the Cook" and decide whether to pre-order a "Book the Cook" option or not.

I'm just back from flying SQ A350, 777, A380 (old) and A380 (new) all in J. I found them all to be good, but yes loving the new J and I guess no need to flick over the seat, just recline. Even the old A380 J was pretty good, I guess the main thing is the older screen is noticeable now. The seat itself is fine.

Experienced both a few months ago. I am 185cm and of a larger frame and had no problems with the 350. Yes in seat mode the 350 has less leg room but was not an issue for me.

Flew out on SQ236 and came back on SQ265. Both were J redemptions. Only negative with the 777 was the IFE. Was old, smaller screen and did not have the range of selections.

Important though rarely discussed are the body part ratios of individuals.
If you have longer or shorter legs versus upper body then that can have a huge impact on these types of seating experiences.
