I'm traveling Sq 218 Mel - Sin - Bkk RT in F
(O saver redemption) & a friend will be on the same flight in Y.

Can I guest my friend access into KF First lounge
at Mel as well as Sin, and Sq F pax gain entry to the TA Royal Orchid lounge at BKK?

You should be able to guest into F lounges in Mel and Sin fine. Your friend won’t be able to join you in the private room in Sin though.

I have guested a colleague into the F Lounge at Changi, numerous times. Have not used the SQ Lounge in Melbourne, despite flying out of there regularly, so not sure what the go is there.

Will be testing the access policy at the F Lounge at Heathrow this evening

Unless you are in first class ex BKK you won’t be able to access the First class lounges of any airline there, only the ticketed cabin (which is business class for SQ). That gives you access to the SQ business lounge (arguably the best lounge at BKK), the EVA business lounge (a very close second), the Thai lounges (distant third, but no access to the ‘spa’ section), and the Turkish Iarlines lounge (i think the jury’s out on that one still, not enough data to confirm where it really sits in the hierarchy).

Otherwise access is a potm states (including noting the restriction on Private Room vs First class access).

Although technically I'm Flying in J
Bkk - Sin, it's an O class ticket (F saver redemption) meaning it's still classified as a flight in First, as I rang up SQ & they said I'd have access to TG Royal Orchid lounge.

However my experiences with SQ Call centre has led me to take what they say with a grain of salt and confirm closer to wheels up.

As my flight is arriving Bkk in T2 & only a layover of 90 mins I'll check out TPR on the way back, as I have a 5hr layover in SIN.

As my friend has never been in Any lounge before, (not even paid lounges) being guested into SK 1st lounges will be more than sufficient.

The naming of Thai’s lounges is a bit confusing and i’ve never quite worked it out or understood the distinction. They have a first class lounge, a business class lounge, and then something called the Royal Orchid lounges. Royal orchid lounges have two sections, one for business class and one for first (the first section is very small).

The difference seems to be that ‘royal orchid’ allows star gold members in, where as not all Thai ‘business class’ lounges do (the one on concourse D being the notable one).

Your underlying ticket (O) class is not relevant for lounge access in this case (it might be in others). Star alliance doesn’t have a ‘connecting’ rule like oneworld does. Star is based on your next departure flight, which in this case will be in business. (there are some exceptions where if flying the same airline, they will let you use a lounge as a connecting lounge, but this doesn’t apply when changing airlines.)

Once again, telephone reservations staff are very good... for selling fares and ticketing :) Not so much in things like FF programs or lounge access.

For the best lounge avoid the royal orchid and actually go to Singapore Airlines’ own lounge at BKK (baffling why they would redirect you to a TG lounge). Better food, drinks and ambience than any of the TG business offerings.

I think I am reading your situation correctly but pls advise if I am not - O class is the relevant booking class for SQ R and F rdpt tix - and YES if it is a mixed class rdpt then unequivocally benefits for highest class in the booking apply to all sectors of the booking.

Your problem is not going to be with SQ / KF call ctr staff as they have already given you the correct info - but rather with Lounge staff when you try to access

In regards to the call centre, this is my 1st time flying F.

Despite specifying I wanted to redeem Suites with the Chair & Seperate bed, they only confirmed After spending 260k Velocity pts that I'm flying on the Old Suites. But since many people prefer the Old Suites anyway & don't want to add SYD to my itinerary, I'll live.

They didn't direct me to RO, wasn't sure of the rules. Was trying to see if I had access to a *A
F lounge, but I'm sure SK Bkk should be sufficient.

@Cruiser Elite 100% correct

At SQ operated lounges this may be the case. But under star alliance rules, your next onward boarding pass determines the lounge you can use. SQ doesn’t have a first class lounge at bangkok, so the options are the TG F lounges. These are covered by star alliance rules, unless the OP is given a lounge invite for the TG F Lounge (overriding the boarding pass).

While SQ lounge staff may have referred to ‘royal orchid’ lounges, these are also business class lounges.

I have a mixed class redemption for July. Looking at my booking, the SQ sectors are in O class, but the TK sectors are in I class. There is no mention of an underlying O class.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this comment but here goes. My wife and I are travelling to India, SQ RT BNE-CCU J class. We have a lengthy transit in Kolkata on the return and quite by accident I found out there is no lounge there, either SQ or partner. There is however a pay for entry lounge which costs about A$120 for 2 people for a 3 hour maximum stay.

So, I approached SQ and seeing as they have no lounge at CCU (big saving for them) I requested they give us 2 x complimentary passes to the pay for entry lounge as this is an expected benefit given the cost of the J class fare. I felt this was not an unreasonable request. Guess what, they refused with no excuse offered! So we either pay the $120 or sit in the terminal using public toilets etc for several hours, not an attractive prospect.
I find their dismissive attitude hard to believe.

In all our extensive travels we have never been in a major airport where there was no lounge available, admittedly some better than others, for J passengers. We are long standing Kris members and really do like SQ but this experience has left a sour taste, so much so that we will never fly SQ again. For a piddling amount they have lost us for ever. There are plenty of other good options available.

It does sound rough :( Reading around it seems they give you a $20 voucher to spend, but the bigger issue is how are you getting in to transit at CCU? Checkin will only open three hours before? or will you be arriving from another international destination?

This can happen. I will shortly fly TAS-ICN (for the second time) with OZ in J and there's no lounge. HY has a lounge in TAS but they price walk up access at USD200 (astronomical given you have to pay for drinks). I think airlines budget for a lounge visit (my guess is somewhere between USD20-30) and if an airport lounge prices its access much higher than that, the airline just says no thanks. This is not unique to SQ and not unique to CCU. It would be a shame to boycott a good airline based on this.

Have you got priority pass access via a credit card?
My dad flew last year out of CCU on silk air J and was given $40 to spend on krisshop on board but was told the lounge was under renovation or similar. He just got back from India again but this time he flew out of DEL. SQ Website still says temporarily unavailable.
Perhaps a PP credit card might be your best bet.

Noting that CCU is Kolkata AP It seems you're travelling elsewhere in India and your return trip is domestic and then you'll transfer to an international flight.

If so then is it feasible to leave the airport and see the sites of Kolkata? There is a left luggage facility at the airport for a fee of 20 rupee per 24 hours.

It sounds like using public toilets is going to be the hardest part of the transit. If you'd researched your trip you would surely have seen that there are no lounges at that port. Then you could've rerouted or planned a shorter transit.

Or you could book a room at a nearby hotel (400-500 metres from the airport) and have your own toilet.

Lots of options available if you think outside the box (or terminal).

just curious, how often does the situation of bringing in a guest happen?
most couples/family/friends travel in the same class,

so you should have lounge access each,
I cant think of many times ive been in a situation where I have someone with me in a different class (but I dont have kids)

There are lots of threads here about children in a lower class. Or friends who book their own travel on the same flight and decide to travel in different classes for various reasons.
