So.....after so far gifting 6 family members their maximum 30k, there is no evidence thus far of any limits to gifting.......so if anyone was still chasing the max discount, let me know and we will see just how much you can actually gift from the one account! :)

Say you've gifted Mrs MikeeB 30k points, I don't think you can gift her another 30k points. But you can gift to say me or anyone else as long as we haven't purchased 30k or been gifted 30k from someone else. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes correct. Each individual account can only receive a maximum of 30k points in any calendar year from purchasing or receiving as a gift.

Hi guys,
How long does it normally take to transfer Starpoints from one family account to another ?

Took about 1-2 days, maybe longer over the weekend.

Thank you for the reply. I transferred 30k Starpoints from my mother's account into mine
last Thursday, still have not received them. Guess i will give it till Thursday. Might have to call
the Australian number for Starwood.

Yeah highly variable.

When I used a Canadian credit card it took 12 hours ...but with an Aussie card took more than 5 business days. Lots of factors in play.

Points.com is a Canadian company out of Toronto.

Thanks Mikee. I will wait for another 2 days and see what happens.

Oh man, that sucks. Starwood should make the point transfers between family accounts instant.

Does anyone know how the 5th night free offer works with SPG. I am looking at accommodation in New York later this year.

If the price for the room is 8000 spg points and I would like to stay 5 nights in theory that's 40000 spg points. So I assume the 5th night being free the total point requirement should be 32000 points. However the requirement shows as 40000 points. When I check to see how spg has worked it out it shows 4 x 10000 point nights and one free. Now, if you ask me that's cheating...they have raised the point price from 8000 to 10000 per night for a 5 night booking.

Am I missing something here or are spg being liberal with their advertising.

So when you do a dummy booking for 4 nights, it says 8,000 points per night? But when you add a night (5 total) it goes up to 10,000 per night?

When you search for 5 nights in total, the discount should already be taken into consideration. It will also give you a breakdown of points/night.

There is no 8000 per night room. The only way you would have seen that is by putting in 5 nights. this is the SPG redemption table Starwood Hotels & Resorts

As you can see, the one you were looking at is 10000. If you had have entered one night, that is what it would have shown. Four nights is 40000 and 5 nights is 40000 too.

Actually when I do a dummy booking for 4 nights it shows the point requirement as 10000 points pn when looking at room options and when I click through to try to reserve. However when I try 5 nights it shows the point requirement at 8000 points pn when looking at room options but when I try to reserve it prices at 10000 points pn.

From my own experience if you look at a points booking for 5 nights, you will be shown the average for the 5 nights, thats is if the room rate is 10,000 points a night for less than 5 nights, it will show you the rate as 8,000 points a night, totalling 40,000. So you see in the check 10,000 points a night plus one night free.
Of course if you looked up up a booking of say 3 or 4 nights and it said 8,000 points per night then you have a legitimate concern.
If you still have an issue I suggest you telephone Starwood reservations; I have found them very helpful.

I think I am mistaking the "average rate per night" for the cost in points per night. Will have to recalculate...bugger.

Thanks for your replies
