hopefully they wouldn't drop someone off at the airport using the bus... ;)

I am wondering if the demise of Masters will make that carpark a free for all. I've had notices on my car when parking at IKEA overnight.
I've also asked IKEA if I could pay them to park in their carpark. But they didn't want to play.

I assume you are employed - why not just pay for parking at the long term carpark?

If the Australian airport parking was charged at "reasonable" rates, more of us might consider it. Especially at PER

Happy wandering (perhaps not so available if stationary)

You assume right. For my weekly travel I normally stump up the $70 a week = $3500 a year. Despite the massive increases in price over the last few years with no corresponding increase in service. But for overnight/weekend trips to HKG (for example) when the parking is going to cost me $50 I think that is a massive RIP OFF.

Oh and I offered to pay Ikea $50 a week to use their carpark, seemed reasonable. But they just couldn't get the concept.

GPH. Don't know if the gentleman was an AFF, but decided to thank him here because this is where all the kindhearted frequent flyers communicate. Correct? :)

Ikea would (righly) assume that by allowing people to park in their spots it takes it away from those ikea customers whom would spend $50 in store in 10 minutes. Furthermore it takes time to respond to such corridpondance for absolutely no value to the store. So I am in no way surprised.

Well they did reply, so not sure your point there. IKEA also sell $1 hotdogs, easy enough to become a customer for a lot less than $50. Oh and the carpark is never full.

I'd say the bigger problem is that the contract allowing them to be on airport land prevents them competing with the airport's rip off parking.

I'm a little surprised they replied. Also yes they may sell $1 hotdogs, but if a customer comes in to purchase a $1 hotdog, they are unlikely to be leaving their car parked there for long, plus the all important thing is that the person purchasing the $1 hotdog I would image they would actually need to step foot into the ikea store to make said purchase? Not sure, never seen hotdogs at our local ikea, don't know if that's an instore thing or a outside like bunnings thing.

In any case it a person whom is within the generial Ikea area and could be swayed into purchasing something more unlike a person whom has flown off for a week and is therefore going to be making exactly zero purchases in that time, but taking up a car space from a person whom may come in.

(Comments about the car park been almost always empty are moot, if they offered it to one, there would be others whom would ask for it as well)

They could have thought outside the square and used your $50/wk as a donation to their favourite charity. ;)

$1 hotdogs are available at the exit. I make sure to purchase one when using their carpark and they are open on my return. Mainly for day trips

Other people would have to ask to pay to use the carpark, as I did. I'm not suggesting there should be a generally advertised offer.

Why not go one bloack further past Ikea and park in a residential street, it's free.

Yes, and I think there are a few who do that as well. I'm happy enough to pay something for parking that is reasonable.

As long as I'm saving money I don't care. ;)

Ikea.... a great place to pick up cheap batteries and candles prior to getting in your car upon returning home...

Perhaps I'll add a hot dog next time, are they edible...?

I was waiting to enter Melb QP when a fellow guest tried to guest 2 workmates in, she was refused entry as the lounge Angel advised lounge was very busy, I then indicated I was happy to guest one of them, but the lounge Angel said no way as lounge was full and no guesting!!! I didn't push the issue, as they were strangers, but had it been travelling buddies, I would have probably stood my ground...
